Combine vs. Xen - Absolution

The author worked exclusively with Laidlaw on the strategy guide, its in the credits thing.

It did. Every portal after that was Nihilanth's doing, then his death caused the portal storms. The resonance cascade effect was gone.

I still find it a little... coincidental, that breen was both the adminstrator and the guy who sold out earth to teh combine.

True but the Combine could see him as a very important individual as he was in charge when the RC occured which allowed the combine to come to Earth.

They didn't. The Combine wanted to wipe us out, and would have if Breen did not intervene.

could the same be said for nihlanth? that he stopped the vorts being wiped before they packed their bags and moved to xen?

Nihilanth mind controlled all the vortigaunts, so he's not nice, no.

And Breen only did what he did to save his own skin.

Yes, but his reasons were less noble. He couldn't risk losing his slave force.

Well, regardless, the Combine are going to be pissed. Unless The Project turns out to be some kind of "OTHER DIMENSIONS STAY AWAY" device, yeah, humanity = dead.
 
perhaps rebellions have occured in all the other cities, perhaps gordan got cloned and sent to each city o_O

I know I reply to an old topic, but about what happened to Xen after HL1, Gman gives some clues, at the end of HL1 he says:

"The borderworld Xen is in our control for the time being thanks to you, quite a nasty piece of work you managed over there, I am impressed"

----

About other cities besides City 17, yeah I think there was a mass rebellion all around the world. But there weren't much cities left on earth I think.

You also have to wonder, how do all these Americans get stranded in an Eastern European city? Why did the surviving Black Mesa personnel go to Eastern Europe?

Yea, it is kinda weird that Barney, Eli and Kleiner just came from Mexico to somewhere in Estonia.

But yea, mankind is kinda in trouble now, when Breen is not preventing Combine from doing stuff. Advisors take care of stuff and maybe we are going to see some Synthcrabbies coming out.
 
The Combine didn't attack right away, so there was plenty of time for the Black Mesa people to go to Bulgaria (not Estonia!).

The Combine obviously moved them there for some reason or other. Why is another question. I'd say they probably wanted the remaining population is a relativly small area and chose Europe/Asia.

They went to City 17 because its Breen's seat of Administration. It's the head city.
 
Wow, I can't believe that after all this time, I'm still linking to this topic to people who believe that flawed and outdated "HL2 Story Guide" as if it was an official source.

Seems like false info travels 100 times faster than fact.

Wrong. Valve said they are modelling the surrounding forests and landscapes you see, after places like Estonia.
So it's somewhere in or around Estonia.

And if so, it's a real honor:D.

But countries don't exist anymore remember? Thats why it hasn't been specified where its set. And, Kevin, they moddeled the cities off various eastern european cities. Thus, city 17 could be anywhere, even if the forest is in what was once estonia.
 
I think the Wikipedia page clears it up. Asking which City is City 17 is like asking where Springfield is. Nowhere. Just inspired by some real world places.
