Community announcement?

I sent Doug and Gabe an email containing the following "Will you be making an official announcement to the community about why the game is delayed? A lot of fans are really upset that the delay rumors were officially denied by Gabe and yourself, and then we get a last minute delay with no explanation.".

We'll see if I get a response.

I sent this email last night:

    Gabe,

I'm deeply saddened by the announced delay.

One question: If Vivindi had this information nearly two months ago, what was the point of lying to the public and press about the release date? It seems like a very poor and irresponsible marketing move, either way.

The ironic thing is, I'm not upset by the delay at all. I'm disappointed in myself for having Valve's back all this time regarding the Sept. 30th release date. I guess 'ol Fragmaster was right, and the Valve fanboys have been let down. That's too bad.

    :(

    Brandon

This is the 7th email I've sent (within the past 3 months) with no response. Of course, all of the others were much nicer - simple tech questions, etc.

Hum, they actually reply very fast to emails indeed.

±20 minutes

Then I guess they just don't care enough about the fans to make a quick announcement. I'm not mad about the delay, I just want to know why they tell everyone "Halflife 2 WILL ship September 30th!" then 1 week before the ship date at 9:00 PM pacific we get "Halflife 2 delayed for holiday release, kthx bye." What is the showstopper? They had to know about this at least last week. Why lie to everyone?

If he's too busy i'm sure he'll just NOT waste his time to read them.

Gabe is very selective about his e-mails. It takes a while but you eventually figure out what to write in order to get an actual reply out of him. Here's a hint. He never gives information if he doesn't have a 100% true answer or if he thinks that replying will somehow give away too much. I know he's replying to e-mails because I sent him one this morning asking what he wants from us, and he simply said patience, which is exactly what I expected from him. So he's definitely reading them and replying, just being extremely selective as usual.

I don't think asking if they will make an announcement is asking for too much but we'll see.

Uh...Sept. 30th? That one's at best incomplete information.

I think they won't or can't reply to the community, Doug recieved my email and no response.

Yeah, I think most of us can handle the delay, it was kind of obvious. But at the same time Valve lead us all on about it fr possibly weeks. They must have known it wasn't going to come out. Unless they were only going to try to release on Steam alone, but Vivendi came in and said that their contract didn't allow that (BLAH BALH BLAH), and so Valve had to back down. Maybe they are pretty close to release, but Vivendi is intent on having a simultaneously worldwide release and so the extra months are there to ensure they get enough hard copies to release all at once. Who knows, I'm obviously just guessing here.
