Wrong, you could potentially talk about game piracy, so long as you mentioned no URLs or anything that relates to downloading warez.

Some people have low tolorance levels. We seem to have a few christians who use these boards who could get offended by something that other people couldn't care less about, everyone has their limit.

If people were talking about how good it is to take drugs etc then obviously we'd close it down. However, if it was a discussion on "drugs vs .." , "What drugs do to you" or "pro drugs vs anti drugs" then the mods would usually let it go. Yes, I know the last one sounds highly contradictive of what I said above but as long as pro-drugs was discussed in an intelligent way ( and it can be ) then there's little problem.

WoW somone made a thread about making methonal (as in alchahol) from baking soda, Someone give me a link I'v got to see how thats done.

I don't mind people talking about drugs (I do drugs) but not hard drugs, I don't want to know about people injecting themselves with shit or about how to grow your own mushrooms (yes they are hard drugs). As for the likes of weed, alchahol and tobaco, I don't think there is any harm in that.

Can I just say after spending the last day with nothing to do and spending alot of time on the forums...

How the hell do you put up with so much crap? After the massive amounts of BS threads today I'm amazed anyone (mods) can be arsed to try and clean this place up. People are breaking the rules on purpose even stating in their thread "Wonder how long it will take to get this closed down".... Christ, I'd go insane...

My only worry is that this is only gonna get worse in the next few days...

I know I don't hold any standing in this place, but can't you instant ban some of these idiots... or at least make a few more senior members mods or something?

I enjoy this place and don't wanna see it getting trashed with flaming and spam... heh, and I'm pretty much a n00b

Good questions and points. I'll start with your comment "I know I don't hold any standing in this place." - Actually you do! The community who populate these forums are very important to us and if they're getting annoyed by something then it's our job to look into it.

Some of the mods will get fed up, last week I couldn't be bothered even looking at the forums for a couple of days but then other times I'm personally up till 5am keeping an eye on someone or a couple of threads.

Regarding the banning of certain individuals. We're trying to avoid the whole Forum Nazi reputation and I think we've all been really fair when it comes to warning / banning people.

It's pretty obvious to see who's registered just to be an idiot or who's heading straight towards a ban but if we can convert a user into being part of the community instead then I think it's much better.

We've got quite strict with warnings now - We warn you once and if you screw up again you're banned. If you sign up with another account and continue breaking the rules then we IP ban. If you try to bypass that then we send your IP to your ISP and attempt to get you blacklisted.

As for the forums getting worse - I'm afraid they will do in the upcoming week as more people join ready for September 30th - plans are underway to create more supermods to watch the boards.

For a week or two after that you might find they've died down quite a bit as people avoid them for fear of reading a spoiler. Then the community will all come back to discuss the game etc. There was talk about creating a board called "spoilers" but it would only drag people away from General Discussion and as talking about the game is the whole point of General Discussion there's little point in doing such an action.

Instead we'll probably just get people to add "** SPOILER **" before a thread title if they wish to engage in game chatter.

I'm no hacker (so I'm not really sure what one could do with it) but I think posting people's ISPs after they are banned is wrong. I mean, some people are assholes, but that doesn't mean you should throw their ISPs to the rabid and wrathful community.

You know, just a suggestion.

Overall though, the mods are fighting valiantly for control of the forums. Good job.
