Ok.. I haven’t abandoned my other idea (yet) but I was just thinking about stuff and circulating my ideas and I thought of a Community Created Mod.

Pretty much everything in the game(gameplay, setting, theme, plot, realism, which modells look better, characters names, single player/ multiplayer, etc) is voted by the community.

It could turn out good but it could also turn out horrible. But I think it would kind of be cool to get the whole community involved into a mod and have a large impact on it.

Could work, Could not.

And I dont want to be incharge of this mod. and i Just got a feeling that I posted this in the wrong forum.

A mod, whose content was determined by a publicly available poll.... Now thats interesting.. you may have stumbled onto something there.
Many possiblitys for this idea.

As long as its a mod for HL2, its generaly in the correct section.

Interesting. Although, for me, the word "comittee" springs to mind.

Coming this year: The Consensus Mod!

It should work. If the community submits the content, and that same community votes on whichever is the best to get in... But yea, there will be problems.. for instance, who would want to spend all that time modeling if he wasn't sure his creation would make it in. Or of course, the poll results comming out, and people swearing that someone hacked the site and altered the polls. :/

Once again, pleast post in the appropriate forum, or do not post at all.

Moved.

yea but then everyone would be making high ass quality models because they would want their stuff to be put into the game... it would kind of be like a competition. And there stuff could always be put into another poll if its good.
And for the heck of it they could post images of peoples work so mod teams can find talent.

*edit*

is it really that easy to hack a site?

This is a bad idea, and has already been discussed in the earlier days. The thing is, some people won't be happy with the decisions, and not everyone in this community has the skills, and some people don't like putting their work in the public domain, you have the problem of who would lead, and with such a big team, everything would fall apart very fast.

ok then... there would be a set team. The team would be selected by the community using a poll. So people who want to be on the team would show their best work and then the community would look through it and then vote... When the team is set.

You then make a poll for the genre(FPS, RPG, Arcade, Warbased, etc)

and then a poll for what time it takes place in - past, present, or future.

and so on.

But obviously the whole mod couldnt be voted by the community. I would say 70-80% would be community decided.

And then 2 weeks or every month you could have a model competition for who can make the best looking whatever and the winner will get there stuff put in the game.

What if a member of the team doesn't like a result of a poll....

This just wouldn't work... nice idea, but wouldn't work

Wouldn't work for a large team, that kind of democracy works up to a certain amount of people. When the team is larger than that amount a form of hierarchy is required to be able to actually make the decisions.

well thats to bad for them... they weren't forced to join the team and they would be warned that they might not be happy with poll results and that they cant do anything about it.

Your saying you pretty much want to play 'Survivor: Half Life 2 Mod'. I think for most people, when they create work for a mod they do it with the intention that it would be used for that mod. Having the public vote on work could possibly lower mod morale because their work might not get voted to be put in the mod. You would probably lose more support than you would gain.

What if the majority of the voters are biast? What if they all vote for someone they like rather than someone who has better work?

Sorry it just wouldn't work.
