Need help HL2.net! My comp believes it has only 64MB of Physical memory inside it, but it has 2GB of RAM and a 380GB HDD. Apparently this massively slows down my applications, any idea how to change the setting to what it should be?

I have no idea how this happens but it is really annoying and has most definately been causing my game lag.

Iirc weren't you doing tons of cleaning and pruning in your registry recently? I'm not sure (maybe some wisebeardface can clarify) but maybe some overzealousness could have resulted in this error.

System Information - msinfo32 says that I have only 64MB of Physical memory but things like the DirectX Diagnostic Tool says that I have 2GBs of the stuff...

And the 'repair' work I am doing is all via this software which removes errors from registries, I havnt touched anything in there.

EDIT: And XP is my operating system.

Have you tried to remove a stick? (with the powersupply switched off) See what your PC says in bios and in windows. Shut down. Put memory back in and take other one out. repeat.
Just mess around and see how it reacts.

I'm not saying that this is definitely your problem, since it could be completely unrelated, but I had already figured that you were using registry cleaning software to fix up your registry, and wasn't implying that you were deleting stuff manually. The problem is that I've heard that even registry utilities can be a bit over-enthusiastic in what they delete and 'fix', sometimes, so you never know...

err OP have you tried changing the paging size yourself?

Well I have but only the Paged Pool Memory size, that Hexidecimal etc. I'll get a screeny.

That thing, that could be a factor, but all I have done is improve that limit, otherwise it is much lower :|

EDIT: That link thing did help but I need to know if this effects my machine in anyway...

God, Nicky. You're the same age as me and you know stuff like this. I wouldn't have a clue.

If I understand him correctly, he's talking about the amount of RAM present in his system that Windows is reporting. If you're referring to Virtual Memory, that would be unconnected to this.

The pagedpoolsize registry entry should also not make a difference.

If the link I posted helped, then apparently it's just that system information app that's seeing your RAM incorrectly, so you'd just need to use other programs instead (CPU-Z, GPU-Z, etc.).

Ctrl+Alt+Del (or right click on the start bar and choose Task Manager) and go to the Performance tab and post what it says under Physical Memory for Total.

Thats good, cause that is the only setting I have changed.

And that link didnt particullarly help me, it just gave me some light so to speak.

Here is a random reading from Task Manager, all I have running is Iexplorer and Hl2.net chatroom.

Physical Memory (K)
Total 2095532
Available 1447452
System Cache 1130372 (obviously not correct cause they constantly change)

Anything wrong here?

Looks like it's just msinfo32 incorrectly reporting your RAM size, that's it.

You need to 93MB that shit.

I lol'd

Yeah, its probably just reading it wrong. And its certainly not causing your game lag, because if it really thought it could only use 64mb then you wouldnt be playing your games at all.
