Ok I bought a bunch of new parts recently and stuck them in my computer. Worked fine.

Now, the old parts I wanted to put in my Dads computer, which was older. So I stuck in the old Athlon 2800+, Soltek 75 FRN2-L Socket A mobo, the Antec Smart Power 350 watt Power Supply, and a Radeon 9600 XT. Now I hear the bios beep sound, and it turns on, but it freezes on first bios screen at "Memory Detected at 166mhz". Ive tried switching all the sticks of ram (2 512mb sticks, 1 256mb), but i dont think its that, as the ram worked fine before in it.

Any ideas?

sounds like a problem with your processor, it's too new (fsb is too high)
i think...

I had this one, or at least one similar to it.. .. I left the computer 12 hours.. (I suspected it to be heat related) and it turned on fine :)

Lahire, the motherboard and processor worked together previously (I'm assuming)

Try using one stick at a time if you haven't tried it. Maybe you fried the ram? His motherboard has an nforce 2, it would work with all the athlon xps.
