when i press the button to turn on my comp, the on light goes on for a split second and turns off. whats wrong? ive rewired the thing like 3 times, got a new psu. what is it? thanks a lot.

are you sure your not holding the button in?

if not, I'd send it in for a replacement.

i built it myself. im not holding the button in for sure.

did this just recently start happening?

has it worked fine before?

I don't know, the power button could be broke. Or the motherboard could be shot.

ya, it worked fien before, but then started happening. how could the power button be broke? it starts for half a second.

I don't know, I logged on to HL2.net last night after coming home for the odd chance of a new bink or something (hey it has happened before). I then saw this thread and I threw in my 2 sleep deprived cents.

Try unplugging everything in your computer and plug everything back in. This includes molex power plugs, harddrive cables, optical drive cables, everything. Something may not be firmly connected causing this problem.

Right. I think I know what this might be. Computers build up static charges.. and it's possible to turn one on with no power button (I've done it.. but fried a GeForce 4 in the process) so it could well be that the motherboard is dead

I would buy a PCI diagnostic card, they are about 15$ I think, but it's worth trying those before you completely ditch the system as dead.

well my old mobo idd the exact same thing, and i still have waranty on the mobo, so ill exchange that. thanks for the help guys!
