It's official now: the CoH expansion will focus on the Brits and their push for Caen during the summer of 1944, and ze Germans while defending Arnhem during operation Market Garden in the autumn of the same year.
1UP preview
I especially like the fact that you can play as ze Germans this time around. If Relic wants to make this expansion historically correct, it will mean you will play as the SS. :naughty:

I expects Adrian Sheephard to make an appearance ;) :D

Sounds cool, but it would be nice if they had added the Russians

I wish I could get into CoH..but I just can't...

and Opposing Forces? Sounds familiar?!
:p

COH is IMHO, the best RTS game ever released. It's the game that finally converted me to the RTS "Darkside". Of course you have to have a decent PC for it to be fully enjoyed. I first played it on my old & slow P4 3.4GHz. With the settings I demanded the game to run in, it chugged along & often dipped down into the teens FPS wise. Then I ran it on my E6400 & OMG it was sweet. Smooth as silk.

I look forward to the expansion.

When the **** will I get my ****ing soviet russians!? GRR!

I have CoH, but not enough space left on my computer to install it! D:
I'll install it when I'm done with C&C3.

its Opposing Fronts not forces :p
cant wait for it w00t :D

Arguably the best RTS ever potentially gets even better? Cant ***king wait.

Nice to be able to play as ze Germans at last, always wanted to play a game where you played on the loosing side.

My thoughts exactly.

Then again, every side i'm on tends to be the losing side...

improved vehicle and soldier AI

About time, or has there already been a patch for CoH that fixes the horrible vehicle AI? You know, the kind where a tank has to turn only 10 degrees to be able to move to his waypoint, but decides to turn 350 degrees while getting hit in the ass by shells.

Over at the Relic News forums, member KamikazeZero has outlined the information found in the Games for Windows article regarding Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces. We'll be seeing British vs German Elite Panzers. He also gave the outline regarding some of the new units and doctrines we'll see:

Brits:
Royal Canadian Artillery: Heavy Artillery based with the M7 Priest. Different modes, such as Overwatch, creeping barrage, and counter battery fire. (Good gosh, I think this is the first time our friends up north have ever appeared in a WWII game, and they bring some old fashioned WWI-style massive, colossal, map-pulverizing artillery bombardment, none of that namby-pamby howitzer crap we saw in the ole' COH)!

Royal Commandos: Glider SAS troops + Tetrach I light tanks. Abilities to see through FoW, intercept Axis 'messages', decoys for artillery and glider drops. (Fake colored smoke?)

Royal Engineers: Churchill tank variants. 290mm mortar, Flamethrower, cover for tanks, trenches, machine gun nests. (That's right folks, the latest British engineers have pioneered a powerful new technology known as 'trenches', which renders them almost invulnerable to artillery, and might actually make turtling a viable strategy in this game. It also paves the way for some grand last stands, with the stalwart Tommies defending their trenches against German infantry! It'd be interesting to see how the Germans will tackle this, as they are definitely 'Quality over Quantity'. Perhaps uber-ninja stealth stormtroopers creeping up for some bundled grenade loving?)

Germans:
Scorched Earth: Ability to make impassable terrain, environment based defenses. (Sounds sexy, especially when you might be able to make choke points on demand. Zose Yankees' numbers vill now count for nothing! Roll out ze MG42s!)

Luftwaffe: Fallshirmjagers, Flak Cannons, He129 Tank buster. (We better get some aircraft with these lads, which was sadly lacking on the German side in COH 1.)

Tank Hunters: King Tiger, JagdPanther. (A King Tiger can take on about four Shermans without breaking a sweat. The end is nigh.)

Brits also seem to have an 'ability' where they go into patrol mode in enemy territory, aggressive mode in home territory, having an officer nearby will let them go into aggressive mode in enemy territory as well. They can dig trenches making infantry almost invulnerable to any kind of bombardment, requiring infantry to flush them out.

Screenshots also show PIAT equipped Universal Carriers, Bren Guns, Suart Tanks, Sherman Firefly tanks...

Looks like a cracking good time, what what!

Sherman Fireflys? Top draw!

1 hit kills to the frount of a tiger at 1000 yards!

And Churchill Crocs! Fantastic!

I loves my WWII brit kit!

same, every time i join a team game, im always on the losing side lol

brits and canadians yay!
its standalone too which is kinda odd

You sir just made my day.

*Edit* it seems so fitting that Canadian artillery are being highlighted just days (April 9th- 12th) before the battle of Vimy Ridge (WW1 battle where Canadians under the command of General Arthur Currie (a Canadian war hero, he wasn't a great speaker nor well liked by his troops and performed best with small numbers of men.) who meticulously planned the assault of Vimy Ridge using Creeping Barrage to great effect.

they've been showing the diaries of soldiers who fought at vimy as well as on Arthur Currie and next monday about a group of students who are travelling to Vimy Ridge.

I hope they have fixed that stupid thing that tanks seem to do, where you tell it to attack something so it drives right up to it first before firing >.>

There were parts involving the canadian army in Call of Duty 3.

Still, good stuff.

Definately looking forward to this.

Can't wrap my head around the name, though...

Why is Opposing Fronts still on the Western Front?

I *think* its because there are two campagins. So, you will be playing on opposing fronts.

indeed, allied front and german front

I'm very interested in how they're going to make the Germans sympathetic. The characters in the original COH were painted in pretty broad strokes, but they were likeable enough. I must admit though, the German footsoldiers are a lot funnier than the Allied.

"If I knew how much valking ve'd have to do, I'd have joined ze Navy!, and the retort "Zat's vhy we're called footsoldiers!", and of course, everyone's favorite: "Can't you drive any faster Klaus!"

It's actually funny because the more elite the Germans get, the more serious they are. I've seen a StuG crew screaming "Oh mein gott, ve're falling apart hier!" when they took a single Garand round to the side armor, while our doughty StuH commander is always shouting "Don't vorry, ze armor vill hold!" even when all hell is breaking lose around them.

All the Americans have pretty bland lines, except of course for the American sniper. I wonder what the Brits will say... (Prays for a British lieutenant who says "Tally ho, wot wot!")

Very nice. I should be nice and upgraded by the time I get it too which will make for an even sweeter experience than CoH is right now!!

Thank goodness for the AI improvements!! Best addition yet!!

The Podcast had a few of the British lines in, the only one I can remember being "Shoot that wanker!"
