Company of Heroes Review Thread

Does anyone who has purchased the game or frequents their forums know if in the release version it can be run with less than 1gb of RAM? The MP beta ran fine for me, but the SP demo REFUSES to start with less than one gig of RAM.
Are you sure it's not just the pagefile warning you're getting rather than the RAM warning?

I had my pagefile below 1024 even though I have 1gb RAM and I got an error message. I changed it to 1024 and the game ran fine.

Gamespot revised its score for CoH. It's now a 9.0 in stead of a 8.9. Gamespot editor Greg Kasavin explains the change in his blog.

Quite remarkable. I have never seen Gamespot do such a thing. Or any other gaming site for that matter.
No matter what Gamespot say, they changed the score because of the whiners.

Had a sweet game today on Vire River Valley, I rushed with 2 half tracks + sniper (building bunkers to defend bridge ways) followed by some stugs then Flakpanzers when I was able, my teammate just followed most my attacks with remote tank bombs that was really funny to watch. Axis seem pretty easy to use while allies are a bit more tricky and more skill required I would say.

Just got this game and I gotta say that so far it is pretty dang cool. I've only played the first two missions, but so far they are very fun. More as it comes.

Yes, i am currently acquiring this game. :D Going to buy it when its released anyway, but i just cant wait !

Played the demo about 2 days ago as, as usual, its being released later here in the U of K.

I though DoW was amazing, but this blows it away..literally. When the room vibrates as an mg emplacement goes off or the oh-so-make-a-damp-spot-in-your-pants joy and beauty of the artillary strike (i could watch that for days), you KNOW its a ground-breaking game. The full physics on the buildings where you can use the randomly falling rubble as new cover, the graphics, the sounds, the atmosphere. I actually broke a sweat playing the defensive mission of Carentan. SO intense. I mean, if a game can do that, holy sh...

Definitely getting this game. Its the RTS to end all RTS's. Command and Conquer meets Brothers in Arms meets DoW meets Medal of Honour..wow. Just wow. Extremely strong contender for Game Of The Year i think. Off to play it again :D

Seriously crazy game. Been playing the sp and its great.

Right now, CoH scores 96% on Gamerankings with eight reviews. It will enter the rankings when it reaches twenty reviews. If it keeps this level of scoring up, it will be the best PC game on record and one of the three best games on any console.

Goddamn this is fun. Just played my first multi game (after a bit of strife trying to get it set up), and totally pwned up :D

Gotta say, I'm struggling to find another game released this year that matches CoH for pure quality and fun, so you may be right there 0mar. Like I keep saying, I hate most all RTS games, but this one is an exception - to say the very least.

Yeah I too am not a major RTS fan, but I love this game - so simple yet tactical at the same time, the controls are totally easy but there is lots of strategic depth to the game.

Im just getting into the Multiplayer after taking a thrashing at first, only complaint is there are not many European servers...yet

I loved the single player part of the demo, but the skirmish mode seriously drives me mad. I've set it to as easy as possible, and tried again and again, but no matter what I get my ass handed to me. I've yet to make a tank, and the enemy will have 6. I've tried playing hard and fast and making grabs for everything on the map, and I've tried super defensive. Regardless I just can't even come close to getting the upper hand.

Just upgrade your infantry with sticky bombs and keep lobbing them at the tanks.

Ok as I seem to do quite well on skirmish and online play, Ill tell ya'll some tips:

The most important thing in skirmish/ online play is securing the fuel sectors, then building OP's on them and guarding them with an mg team. So from the start produce 2 more engineer squads at HQ, send out ur other squad to start taking sectors. As some engineers take sectors, ur others should build a weapons support center so u can get MGs.

Send MG teams to cover fuel sectors, and build OP's on those sectors. At the same time ur other engineers should surround ur base with tank traps, bar some gaps. Now mine the gaps extensively, as soon as u have enough munitions.

You need to make sure u get ideally 3 fuel sectors ( 4 on large maps) and no less than 2. With them secured, Dont start attacking, but continue to build defences and start to build the buildings required to produce tanks (NOT armoured cars/ Pak guns/ halftracks; u wont need them).

With enough fuel u should be able to produce these buildings reasonably quickly. Just be patient and wait until u can start rolling off tanks, this is when a high fuel resource is crucial. Observation posts built on fuel sectors take a long time to destory by enemy, so if they attack you build up some infantry and fight them off. Otherwise do not attack with infantry. Wait till you have a decent amount of tanks ( say 3-6 depnding on circumstances) before sending them off straight for the the enemy main base. Hopefully victory will be yours..

Obvoiusly if the enemy starts to mount an infantry attack, you may need to send off ur first tank straight away, back it up with an engineer team to fix it after.

I absolutley love this game, but im not that good at it yet. I have to read up on some strategies

Just upgrade your infantry with sticky bombs and keep lobbing them at the tanks.

Was the first thing I tried, but sticky bombs just are not effective enough to kill a tank without sacrificing several squads. The fuel strategy sounds promising though, so I'll try that. I think the map they pack in with the demo just might be a real tough mother because the two fuel areas are seperated by the entire length of the map, making them terrible defensively.

Ok, yeah after playing a bunch more the fuel advice is good advice, but the map in the demo is just too ridiculous to try and learn on. Its just way too wide open so you need to defend the whole length of it to keep a hold on any amount of resources.

Edit: Ok, finally kicked the hell out of the computer. The key was to send out engineers immedietly and wall up the one road they can use to cross the river on the maps right side.

Picked up a copy of this yesterday. Played through the tutorial missions and the first two campaign missions last night, and so far i am loving it. Brilliant effects, great sound, same intuitive control system as dawn of war. So far so good, although i am sure i will soon be frustrated when the difficulty level starts to increase !!!
