So I have a Compaq X Gaming PC (it was a gift , I would have built my own if I could have) and I need to wipe the Hard Drive and restore everything to it's factory settings. So I put in the DVD and it reads, then I shutdown my computer and restart it.

Then when the Compaq recovery system thingy is supposed to come up it says:

These recovery CDs (its a DVD for gods sake!) do not match this Compaq PC model. Please press any key to continue.

Then it goes on to start the computer normally.

Some things I thought might have been causing the problem but were not:
  • The DVD is in the DVD drive, not the CD drive.
  • The DVD is clean. Spotless more like.
  • This is without a doubt the DVD they gave me with the computer.
  • I have run Ad-Aware and Norton Anti-Virus on my computer. Booth show no spyware/adware/viruses of any kind.
  • I thought Service Pack 2 might be causing a problem as I just got it so I uninstalled it. Still no luck.

I have wiped my hard drive many times before with this DVD without any problems. What's causing this? ANY help is greatly appreciated.

I hate to bump my own thread but this is a rather important matter. I really need this DVD to work.

in your system bios you can make your computer boot from the dvd drive first rather than the cd drive and that might make it work but im not for sure. sorry i couldn't be of more help but my knowledge is limited about your problem.

i ment after he restarted his computer i think it's f2 or somthing to enter into system bios and set your dvd drive to boot first before your cd drive.

This may sound silly but did you contact compact's customer support and explain it to them? I hate to suggest that but it sounds system specific.

No, looks like I'm going to have to though. I just don't understand. This DVD has worked before so it leads me to believe that I changed something or a program changed something that makes my computer independent from the other times. I did add a 512MB stick of RAM but I took out itt and it still would not work.

Bah. Thanks for the help though guys. I dunno, guess I'm off to e-mail Compaq.
