I was just wondering (the topic came up in a random thread earlier) if it was possible to have a forum devoted to community competitions.
Now there have been many competitions in the past, including a gaming one that i set up (and no-one entered) and an art forum one (that was sucessful but petered out after a while).
Now the reason i believe the competitions weren't amazingly sucessful is because they weren't noticed. For instance, the gaming one i made just got swept away by the other posts, and the Art forum isn't the most popular forum, so a competition went un-noticed by all the people who aren't interested in art.
But if there was a whole forum devoted to competitions (maybe 3 or 4) People would not only NOTICE the competitions, but they would know where to go if they felt like entering. When i'm bored, i just browse the forum, as i'm sure many people will do. But if there was a competitions forum- i'd go there and see if there was a competition to fit my mood.
The competitions i had in mind were:
Screenshot competition (take funny or sophisticated in-game screenshots based on the subjkect given)
Writing competition (You are given something to describe or say, and must capture the readers attention. anyone can enter, great for killing boredom!)
Art competition (exactly the same as the old one- paint / draw / design the given idea in as best way as possible)
The competition thread would have to be run my mods, and would probally be like the news forum in that only mods can make threads- but it would also be interesting to allow people to make competitions of their own. I understand that this would take a lot of mederating to work, but if the competitions were one and a half week entry, and half a week voting, i'm sure the huge amount of moderators we have can contribute. i would be happy to help in any way, i have PLENTY of free time
