Complete Newb at Garry's mod, need help

Ok i'm a complete newbie to Garry's mod, and i have no idea how to spawn ragdolls. I press F1 and it tells me to click Q and then press the buttons, but what buttons? tried the buttons on the map and it just gave me blocks. Tried keys on my keyboard and i got nothing. What do i do?

change the weapons you're using to spawn things
or hold down Q and select the thing you want to spawn with the mouse left click

By 'press the buttons' it means click on the thing you want.

do you create a server when you're offline?
try that and check your key settings

Did you bind anything to Q? If so you have to re-install or edit your bound keys folder.

Re-install Garrysmod you mean? or HL2?

bind a key to "+spawn" and hold that key to display the menu

I was wondering if the new version allowed AI.

The old one allows AI (in singleplayer anyway)
