I just finnished it again, this time without going through the portal at the end.....

lol @ bad alien sprites!!

I beat it in like, year 2000.. that's when I found out about HL.
Before year 2000, I was a total stranger to the computer world.

completed HL in '99, played for 2 weeks o_O
after that completed 8 times,
completed: opposing force, blue shift and hundreds single-player mods
i downloaded 2 gigs of SP mods.. and played all autumn and winter, really enjoyed it

bought it in 98. got swept away in MP at LANs, and eventually internet play, then mods started coming out. fast foward to 2 days ago. i just started the SP halflife campaign. great so far

I finished it once. Never really tried it again after that...

it was my first fps experience, i beat it in 2-3 weeks, then played tfc for many months and moved on. Last month i tried playing again on hard but ended up crashing every time i tried to round this certain corner during the beginning to surface tension thanks to steam. So i ended up refinding my cd and playing through all the way to lambda complex but then got obsessed with spawning grunts to fight against armies of spawned headcrabs using the console. I haven't gotten around to playing again. However before i started replaying hl i decided to play op4 using steam.

Damn that corner in steam! Exactly the same thing happened to me. When you're just completing one chapter and you're on a train right? Damn that thing. BTW, you can copy you're saved games out of the steam folder and into a CD run copy of half lifes save folder. That is what prevented me from losing all interest in it!

`scuse the n00bism, but what are the spawn commands? :cheese: That sounds fun. (I haven't done any console tinkering for a few years)

I've played through it 3 times... since the HL2 E3 movie :) 2 times before that

Sadly, I've never completed it. I'm too scared of the "big-fish" (for which my folks have never let me live down), and them damn barnacles.

They really, really give me the creeps.

You should get the ultimate effect while playing then. If things scare you, you become more and more immersed. If you can handle it :)

I suggest you brave it, and play through the game more. Even if you really panic, just keep going. It will be a rewarding experience for you.

lol

Complete it Mother it's good. The gargantua scared the hell outta me.

I've finished the game apporximately 5-9 times. I completed it first in 1999 on a P2 233MHz, 32MB RAM and a Matrox Mystique *shudders* graphics card.

3 hours seems doable

Hello !

Well I beat this game several times already a long time ago... and knowing that HL2 is due soon made me play it again !

I timed my progress and I get to Xen in 2h 39min of gameplay, in hard mode, going fast but not the fastest possible. I did not kill every monster, but you have to kill most of them to go through the game without dying anyway... It is a bit difficult to rush through levels rocket-jumping all around like in Quake !

I won't time the Xen part, I just hate it. I usually do it in godmode, I just find it too boring. And that Gonarch will never ever die !

Here is my timetable : (hours'minutes'seconds)

0'00'00 Start
0'06'00 Experiment goes wrong
0'13'20 First big lift
0'28'00 Meet first soldier
0'34'00 First glimpse of surface
0'39'00 Tentacle
0'49'00 Tentacle destroyed
1'05'00 Goliath destroyed, On a Rail
1'16'00 Launch Space Monkeys into Space Rocket
1'26'00 Knocked out by Grunts
1'39'00 Do not obstruct laser shield
1'57'00 Booby trapped ammo depot
2'16'00 Goliath in Parking
2'20'00 Forget about Freeman
2'31'00 Lambda Lab teleporter tower
2'39'00 Xen

Anybody did it faster ?

Cheers guys !

Bout 5 times, once on difficult, Opforces twice on Medium, Blue Shift... got bored of it first time thru :p

Yep, I beat it!

Thank god for quicksaves! :cheese:

i got it in december '98 and completed it within a few weeks :)

they scared the shit out of me too, i hope theres most scary monsters in hl2 :)

I got it the day after release... But it took me like 3 months to complete the damn thing! :p

I remember being stuck on Tomb Raider 2 for literally one month. I couldn't figure this one part, turned out I was just jumping wrong :D

I'm trying to finish it before HL2's out. I just got into the Apprehension chapter. I've got a feeling that one of those giant fishes are close and that's why I'm afraid to go on. It's a great game really.

Yes, I have completed it over 10 times. Opforce about 15 times. Blue-Shift about 5 times.

I have too much free time on my hands... Well, at least back then.

I can't remember when I beat it, not even the year, I think around 99 or early 2000.
