Does anyone know where I can find a comprehensive list of all known enemies currently known for Half-Life 2?

I'm asking because I read about there being 2 types of head crabs - info that I wasn't aware of previously.

there's more than two...

normal hl1 headcrab

some skinny looking headcrab(seen in the vids from those belgium kids or whatver)

some beefy looking headcrab(mentioned in article somewhere)

a hairy(think tarantula) headcrab(also seen in the vids by those kids)

and apparently there's also a flying headcrab(though I'm not sure if the various articles might have this confused with something else)

*edit* the skinny headcrab could be the hairy one just unskinned.

Is this info compiled in any one place?

Or is it all scattered around?

I so do love they use zbrush (which i use too) for displacement maps/bump maps...that headcrab looks gorgeus...

(btw if someone did'nt know, zbrush was used extensively in LOTR:ROTK)

It is good that they are putting in extra varieties of old species into the game I just hope we don’t see a lack in totally new creatures as a result, although to be fair there’s already been allot of new enemies shown.

eiww its got hairs! haha excellent attention to detail. Reminds me of those huge spiders I end up fighting with every summer up here. big black buggers that you can hear tap tap tap as they run across surfaces.

/me shudders

I'm glad all I have to face up with are house spiders. And even they give me the creeps. Damn arachnophobia, I'm gonna get a heart attack playing HL2 hehe.

I own two Chilean rose tarantulas. I feed them live crickets, and often watch them, wondering why the hell they feel the need to huddle in a corner. Yes, I'm so odd I wierd out large spiders. MYGLAMORPHS FOREVER!

Hmm. Enemy wise...
Combine (confirmed/speculation): Metrocop, Combine soldier, Gunship (Manitee wannabe), Strider, Smaller-Strider, Manhacks, Scanners, not-just-yet-confirmed vehicles,

Xen: Houndeyes (I think...), Vortigaunts (slaves as allies, mind), headcrabs (varieties? I think 3's about right), zombie, "Ghoul" (rotting) corpse-type-zombie...

hmm, there's a fair collection there. Wonder what's yet to be revealed.

I'm interested about this small Strider too, I've looked at the videos a number of times now, but I can't see anything that looks like it.

To be honest, neither have I; I was just covering the (partial, heh) consensus. Closest I've seen is what, to me, just looks like a perfectly normal Strider from a distance, albeit in a horrible grainy .avi format that makes identification pretty damn difficult.

Anyone else got any clues?

From what I figure, I think people might have thought the Strider that's crouching and moving along could be this supposed mini-Strider.

Ah right, the one in that vid where you're assaulting two of them with a big bunch of rebels?

Still makes me wonder if there will be different varities of Strider, or at least variants on the whole "massive war machine" theme...

Yes, I think that the "Baby Strider" is just that one that's crouching and running around like crazy. Seems to have gone beserk.

Here's what I know -

Combine Metrocop
Combine Soldier
Female Assasin
Skinny Headcrab
Beefy Headcrab
Hairy Headcrab
Zombie
Ghoul Zombie
Vortinaught
Barnicle
Icythosaur (Or the Water thing, I probably spelled it wrong).
Ant Lion
Ant Lion Gaurd
Scanner
Manhack
Strider
Combine Gunship (Flying Manitee Thing)
Hydra

That's all I can remember... they said that a good portion of the HL1 enemies would be in HL2

Hydra also.
I'd say there'll probably be some kind of Ant Lion Queen, but that's just because they're quite like Huge Ants/Bees/Termites.

----------
The Hydra

Not much is known about this creature but the Hydra seems to be a water based alien who will attack anything, whether it be human, alien or robotic.

I bolded the ones I don't know. I've watched all the videos I can get my hands on. How are the metrocops different to soldiers?

And what is a manhack?

Metrocop= lighter version equipped with stun prods and pistols(white helmets)

Soldiers= rifles etc.(black helmets)

Manhack= those flying buzz saw things seen in the tunnels vid.

Wow.. those spiderlike poison headcrabs are making my Spider (phobia) sense tingling.. :x

I doubt it, it seems to be the same sort of crab as we can see wrapped around the head of the cemetary corpse zombies in those screenshots.

It's about the same size as a regular crab, but has a skinnier physique and yellower skin.

Also, the Soldiers appear to have heavier ballistic vests.

I remember the magazine PC Gameplay having a first look on HL2 back in april 2003. They've mentioned some scenes we haven't seen yet, including one where Gordon is being chased by 3 soldiers, I quote (loose translation):

'Many combatsituations are truly unique. In a different example we see Gordon running from three commando's, under who a mechanized soldier a la Robocop. A grenade splinters a wooden fence, the wood impales one soldier and crushes to other, leaving only the Mech soldier. Quickly you run into a house that you seal with a thick metal door. De Mech saw you enter the house and begins to kick in the metal door, which deforms nicely.'

Maybe they just meant a normal heavily armoured combine soldier, but it wasn't impaled or crushed by the fence, so maybe it was a cyborg.

Add to enemies:

G-Man (semi enemy :p)
Dr.Breen (i don't trust him, do you?)

I had the same ones when I was living in this old house In Paarl (south africa)
we moved in and we heard this tapping (mostly polished wooden floors in the house) and we had no clue what it could be... so we went to the kitchen and they had that old dutch mini service door between the dining room and the kitchen...

my dad opens it slowly, and this f'n HUGE spider lunges at him... now let me tell you my dad has Huge hands... and this thing was as big as one of his fists, and as thick.

I kid you not, it was like a damn headcrab in RL (although this happened way back in like 1994).

when we went into the house we had been playing some cricket outside (err its a south afican/english/indian sport thing) and I still had my wooden cricket bat in my hand, my dad took it and when the spider jumped at him again, he whacked it... and it freaking flew across the room...
now Im thinking "whew thats that", but no the thing rolls over and starts coming back at us..

scariest thing Ever... well to a kid ;)

my dad eventually squashed it (SQUIRT!) against the floor and we later found there was a family of 5 of them that were living there. we assassinated each one as they pitched up.

the funniest thing was, I belive my little brother had seen "arachnophobia" recently, and was having nightmares (he was really young, and watched it at a friends when he wasnt allowed to) and my mom had re-assured him that nothing like those spiders existed in real life (mostly refering to the big fat one at the end, that the guy shoots with a crossbow)
haha needless to say my bro was scared shitless for months.

ooh that reminds me, that was the christmas when Syndicate came out... I loved that game.

ok sorry for the off topic madness.

On Topic: we dont know all the enemies, but we do have a list of known enemies HERE
and the headcrabs mentioned before.. I love the big hairy black ones.

lol that would suck to have huge spiders like that

@PatPwnt, not only should you have had the decency to put that into a spoiler tag... its illegal Leak information and therefore against forum policy :(
