Compression

You mean, like programs that use algorithms that are good for putting them in an archived format (e.g. ZIP, RAR, BZ2), or like compression algorithms that permanently reduce quality somewhat in order to reduce file size a lot? For the latter, I know of a number of decent approaches, such as encoding with DivX, for the former, I'm personally not aware of any. I typically get less than 5% compression when I try to compress those media (MP3, WMA, MPG). :(

Yeah sorry I didnt explain well.

I use the DivX codec but I mean like zipping it up and making it smaller

When you encode the file, a ton of compression is done. generally, you can't compress too much more from there.

If you don't get what i;m saying...

you can zip a bmp down alot, because there's very little compression on it. However, if it's been converted to say, a .dds, you won't be able to compress down much at all.

Exactly. If you zip a 500mb divx movie, you'll save maybe 5 megs max, depending on the file.

If youre still looking for a good format to pack files in, then my tip would be .rar.

Winrar can pack and unpack most things.
