Computer to DVD

yeah, but you cant just burn any format to a dvd and expect it to work on your dvd player can you?

lmao, i don't know, sorry
I just thought it'd be funny if you didn't have one and you were asking

I'd imagine the burning software that came with the drive would format the video for you though

It depends. On my DVD player i CAN do that because my DVD player recognises files like .avi .mpeg etc etc.

All depends on your DVD player.

well isnt there a universal format that all dvd players recognize that i can convert my files to?

Theres lots of programs that will do that job, too many to list here. You could do worse than the demo for nero 7, that has a program to do what you want, for free(for a month).

Rip the Audio_ts and Video_ts folders to a folder on your HD with DvdShrink, burn them with SwiftDisc. Google the apps. both free.

Many DVD burners come with the software necessary to do that. Mine came with Nero.

I think the files need to be converted to MPEG2. Then the player will play them.

It is MPEG-2 and it's also MPEG-2 for hi-def video, too.

Yeah get the video into Mpeg2 format and then you import it into a program that can burn a DVD and maybe make menus etc.
videohelp.com is a good site for guides and stuff.
Also check the DVD player button on the left and type in your DVD player's model in the search, the one you are going to be playing the DVDs on to your TV. It will tell you what is supported and stuff. Some might perfer DVD+R discs, maybe DVD-R or maybe it can do both.
