Computergame addiction lol this dude

I am sick and tired of these motha ****ing addictions to this motha ****ing game!

They said the kid dropped out, and isnt working. Which means that he has no income with which to pay for this... which means the parents are paying for it....

HMMM... I WONDER WHAT THE PARENTS COULD DO??

The fact that WoW is so popular among all those retards makes me want to stay away from it.

About this "gaming addiction", is it like the new fad for soccer moms, like when every brat had ADD? That he plays this much, means one thing: he fills up a void for not having anything to do outside of it. He's not addicted to it, he just lacks anything else to do, or lacks the willpower to do it. WoW isn't inherently 'evil', yet they talk about it like it's fucking heroin. If he likes doing it, then let him do it, quiting completely is bullshit and doesn't accomplish anything. If he does it too much, then ACT! You failures of parents..

It's not the game itself that makes him do this, it's problems outside of the game that makes him fill that void with *too much* of what he likes doing and where he feels safe. Fix those problems instead of shouting "HLEP MY SON IS A GAMING ADDICT!!WILL HE DIE??111".
 
Anybody can get addicted. I was addicted like that a few years ago. But you know what happens? You start drifting away, your interests change... and you just don't spend as much time as you used to. It's not something that's going to kill you. You just spend alot of time on it.

I was addicted to MUDs for about 5 months. But then I got kicked for cheating.
 
And it's funny... even how popular WoW is, it couldent keep my interest for more than a couple months.

In one year and a month of WoW I played over 2k hours. I had a week where I had about 150 hrs of WoW. I still managed to quit without any problems \o/

Actually, I ate at my pc and everything, didn't go out, and nearly never left the room. I believe one of my friends still has a screenshot of it, not sure though.
 
I think the kid is fine - let him live in his dreamworld. Let him define what life is all about because the mother and news reporter sure doesnt know which is the right way to live. This is what games mean to ultimately become, especially those massive online multiplayer games like WOW. Its just a demonstration of human indulgence from reality to a fantasy world. I mean if I could stop time and do whatever the hell I want, I would certainly do that. I'm still proud to say I havent tried WOW yet because of all this crazy hype with the game.

Hehe I loved how the news reporter mocked the kid, "and you call those friends..?"

How can anyone play that game for those amount of hours, I played the game for half an hour, realized how shit it was and took it back straight away and brought some new footy boots, if you are gonna hooked on a game, get hooked on a GOOD game. But really gaming addiction is a myth really, and believe him fully when he says he just get up and go off whenever he wants, its just round to the fact that he knows he has nothing else to do and has limited hobbies so thats what keep shim entertained and wastes the countless hours that he has to waste. If his parents so worried about it then they should stop standing their saying how bad it is and actually do something about it like taking his computer away and forcing him to return to school or to get a job and when he finally starts earning a living, he can have his computer back. These parents are all talk and no trousers.

On-topic, I really find it crazy that the parents just stand there idly while their son drops out of school and plays on WoW all the time. They pay for the game, pay for his internet connection, pay for his food. And they just keep doing NOTHING. :|
 
WoW became a lifestyle, and ultimately a pain. I was feeling forced to raid every friday night at 7, saturday night at 6 and monday at 7, just to get DKP and get the BWL, MC (had all that anyway) and Naxx gear.

Thank GOD i have now left as my Uni wont open the ports required. I feel so free!!!!

first of all, the issue isn't whether addictions exist or not, i think everyone's addicted to something. the problem is perception and point of view. people regard being addicted to world of warcraft as worse than being addicted to lifting weights. i think everyone has the right to be addicted to whatever they want, as long as they're not hurting other people.

then again these days everyone believes they have an important say in other peoples lives..

i was addicted to anarchy online for a year or so, completely ****ed up that year in school, i had to retake one grade, and decided to quit playing basically. if i had listened to my friends i'd probably have realised the danger and quit earlier, so it's good to listen to people around you.

but i think you grow away from things like that and get other interests.. you're going to get bored sooner or later.. i don't play any games nowadays, really. i'm more addicted to music making :D
