I just wish Steam would tell me exactly what it is installing on my machine at any given moment. The program just seems to have a secret agenda of its own at times.

Oh, and I think the other guy probably doesn't have broadband because he said he CAN'T use Steam, not that he doesn't like it. I'm the one who doesn't like it.

Well yeah fair enough.... if you don't have broadband I can see your problem with steam. :(

I trust valve. Its not like they are gona put viruses and illegal crap on our computers.
Well, they better not lol.
Also there is a status monitor thing that tells you exactly what is being downloaded at any time.

edit: my link is what the yahoo link is quoting. so maybe if you get it, it'll install steam for you, so you don't have to download it eh? hell maybe it's not even steam only. bottom line, you don't have to get it off steam.

ah well whatever :rolling: :imu:

I trust Valve too, but you have to realize that you're letting them have their way with your computer. Think about it, someone broke into their computers and stole the source code to steam, it's highly likely that they could hack steam from that information. If you've bought anything from Valve through steam, they could get access to credit card numbers, personal information, and cd-keys. Also there's always the slight chance that some pissed off employee that just got fired could contaminate the whole network.

A few things I don't like about it are the fact that currently you have to be online to use it and it makes using a LAN a pain (probably even when they patch LAN support in). Also, if I'm going to play single player I don't want or need to have this program running in the background. Also, right now it's kinda buggy but that'll get fixed.

There are advantages to it though. You never have to worry about patch's and it's always easy to get new mods. It's pretty easy to use and has a messenger service (although now its flawed). I like the idea of being able to purchase games through it as well. Once it's running well it'll be good, but now it kinda sucks.

i read on another thread that was quoting the steam website that said there will be lots of goings on "over the next few days" supposedly. one of them being the ability to play steam games offline. so, no worries(i hope). :bounce:

Hehe why you think they also hired the BT guy? Steam source code is now different than before, so there hacking would be for someone using an older version, which thats not happening. VALVe has patched up Steam from the hackers your talking about.

Has a publisher ever had 2 games ready to go at once? I'm only asking to see if anyone can have an educated guess of the time between CZ and HL2

Wheeee i can't wait for HL2 now :D

Yeah developer sorry, i'm tired :(

I can see them holding off HL2 (this is assuming that it's finished) for 2-3 months after CZ is out to maximise revenue, but we don't know the state of play with HL2 i'm guessing it's just another hope for the best situation...ah well :)

HL2 is cancelled. I held a rave at Gabe Newell's the other day and he told me first hand. Sorry guys.

uhm, it's hasn't been shipped to stores. That press release was incorrect.

"Vivendi Universal Games announced today that Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, the follow-up to the number-one on-line action game in the world, Counter-Strike will hit the streets worldwide March 26th, 2004. " from ve3d.com

Well if your theory is right (and i hope it is) 2-3 months puts us right at E3 and the begining of summer. SO.... :bounce:

It's coming out in the midst of Far Cry and UT2004... AHAHAHA, it doesn't stand a chance!

steam is way better than the old one....the old one u had to wait 20 minute to get a new list....it was gay

It really hasn't stood a chance since Half Life 2 was mentioned. I know thats when i lost interest in it. But oh well for them. It prolly cost little to make and Half Life 2 will make up for it without difficulty.
