Confirmation: EA Will Publish Aftermath

It does appear that everyone forgot that Valve now self-publishes. EA are not Valve's publishers, they're Valve's distributers. Since Valve has enough money and doesn't need EA's, they fund themselves. They could easily find another distributer, and they likely have a contract in place which gives EA no choice but to distribute the games.

EA still has no power over the games.

chat?

Where is the source article or chat that confirms this?

Publishers or distributors? I'm a bit confused... But nevertheless, I'm glad I'll buy the game in retail for sure because I don't have a credit card.

Publishers: I.E. EA. A company which sells (or distributes) a game for the developer AND has no say on WHAT THE GAME HAS TO HAVE IN IT!
There is one exception, though. Usually, a publisher can test a release candidate of the game and demand bug fixes from the developer. Half Life 2 also went through several release candidates before Vivendi deemed it in a good enough shape, if I remember correctly.

However, EA is known to ignore quality control and just put out games on the shelves that are still in beta stages. :hmph:

I really just wish EA would **** off, no-one likes them. Now two of the games Im most looking forward to have be swalled

Aftermath and Supreme Commander.

And to put my other point across, EA didnt make BF2 but there is still a EA Challenge Everything. Does anyone know what EA are challenging, because EA's games are all the same which is ok, releasing 3 versions of the same game with different titles doesnt seem to be challenging anything but the stupidity of consumers

I would buy Aftermath as retail, as i can add a new box to the collection. But if there is any EA intros "Challenge everything" or any crap like that i will be very dissapointed and angry.

Oh great this means Aftermath will probably have the gay logo EA games its in the game at the intro movies.

Why on Earth did Valve team up with EA

Valve have always been a big force in Developer Rights and now they are partners with the company that disregards rights for everyone and is being sued by its employees for 90 hour weeks and more.

I mean you dont seen Osama Bin Laden as the US Vice President do you?

cause they are hipocrits, plain and simple. you have to be a total noob in economics and a die hard hl fan to believe that valve is all about developer rights. valve is all about their pocket, plain and simple. the next consoles will blow away the pc, they need a publisher for that, they want the biggest, so they chose ea. the fact that ea is natorious for abusing their employees, and buying out the rights to all kinds of franchises, eliminating great games like nfl blitz, means nothing to valve.

and in the other thread, peeps say "their jsut publishing, its no big deal" well if they are jsut "publishers" then i could look forward to playing nfl blitz in the future. but i can't, and if valve makes them money, then they will have even more money to buy more rights, and eliminate even more competition, therefor eliminating these independent developers.

plain and simple, valve is in it for valve. They built steam out of greed, but didn't sell the units expected, and people like me won't buy off steam, i want a box with my games, so after their stupid battle with vu, theyve decided to go with a BIGGER more GREEDY publisher.

and it could be a really smart tactic on their part regarding all the fanbois for hl2. to them, valve can do no wrong, even this they'll somehow blame ea, and not valve for being greedy and hurting the game industry. all the time on forums you would see people saying " i hate VU, im gonna buy from valve, screw VU" so this may actually be a blessing, they get the retail sales, but with a publisher so hated by its community that the maximum amount of sells will go through stream that there can be.

yea, it could be smart, they screwed their publisher before, they'll do it again, or i could be totally wrong, and one day eay will eat up and spit out valve, or purchase the rights to any fps and shut down the toublesome developers that give their publishers a hard time ;)

The biggest problem with this team-up is because it's hypocritical of Valve. Valve always bitched and moaned about big game companies like EA or VU picking on the little guys and with STEAM tried to encourage companies to move to online distribution instead. To then suddenly team up with the biggest asshole company in the world just makes Valve full of shit.

However, there are good things to come from this too. EA is BIG! EA can advertise for Valve and get a bigger word out like there is no tomorrow. EA has no problem with STEAM so Valve still has that... As long as EA stays far enough away from Valve's plan and their development cycle, everything will be just fine.

the next consoles will blow away the pc
lol my ass, thats what they said when PS2 and xbox where released. What about online communitys? what about mods? what about patch/demos downloads?
What do you think those games are made on?

A year ofter its release, XBOX360 and PS3 will be old. PC technology evolves all the time, concole technology doenst(you have to wait +-5years, and thats a long time in cyberspace).
btw The best concole games will also be released on PC witch better graphics, like they always do.

sorry for off-topic

well yea, im saying, looking at the next gen console stuff ( it all could be lies i know) it blows away the pc stuff now, and will come out hopefully at a releatively cheaper price.

atm, i don't think pc's seem to be evolving very fast, prolly 2 years after the 360 premiers, they will blow the consoles away

still though, consoles run so damn smooth cause they write the software for one set of hardware, thats a huge advantage for performance. and if the current consoles were actually upgradable like promised (on x-box at least) then they would be able to keep up.

glad thats all you had a problem with though :D

about mods, about patches, i think that may change for consoles, at least when instincts comes out on the x-box, its suppose to have sandbox on the x-box, and you can upload your player maps online. already a good size amount of mappers mapping with that, it could really pick up on x-box live

We'll im going to buy off steam now. i want a box with my game but not with EA's logo taking up half the design. yes. I am that petty.

But I also do not want EA monopolising the gaming industry.
What Valve has done is beyond belief.

In which that means less performance advantages because changes in hardware, and it also one gigantic step twords CONSOLES = PC'S.

Console mapping is no where near the ability of pc mapping.

Now change the "Aftermatch Overview" section of the mainpage to no longer say it's only available on steam

well, i CAN tell you this. the next gen consoles will blow away MY pc

not everyone buys a new pc with teh new graphics cards bi-yearly. the console makers could be big fat liars though, and the 3 3 ghz gpu or whatever could be a big old lie as well.

i got an athlon xp 1700, and a 9600 xt. next gen consoles better be better then that

what do you mean by "at the moment"

Damn all the wining! I mean damn, its not that bad. Aftermatch will not be any diffrent just becouse EA will publish it. I think thats pretty clear becouse valve will releas it them selfs over steam right? And as you said, they want the money, and changing a winning consept is not a good idea.
oh and by the way, when have valve ever rushed a releas?

All makt åt tengil vår befriare.
