I just joined the www.softimage.com Community and are on their mailing list. When I logged on to the website, I was gifted with Simple, not complex tutorials of how to model, apply shaders, etc. It also had the projects they had worked on such as games (HalfLife, etc), Films (Matrix, etc), and commercial adverts.

From what I have seen, I'm guessing you will be able to plugin their different Skyboxes, Shaders, models, etc, directly into the SDK/XSI. If this is the case, then there will be EXTREME flexibility of the source engine and XSI combined. If you decide to be on their mailing list, come back to me with what you think, I know that there is a Moderator who has joined their mailing list.

I'm just hoping that when the SDK/XSI is released, it comes with examples of shaders and models, because now I am excited, and I get inspired when I'm excited.

Yes, you will have a lot of examples for tweaking things, so you can tweak some more and end up creating your own stuff, which in turn you can seamlessly import into HL2. XSI Rocks! You wouldnt believe how easy it is to get stuff in the game, i forsee the modding community going nuts with it :)

And thus Halflife and XSI take over the world. Mwa Ha Ha Ha!!

XSI does support realtime pixelshaders in the viewports. So previewing shaders you're gonna use ingame should be possible.

I also joined it a few weeks ago something like that and i had logged in and there is an extra join survey that got me confused it started asking questions about how much my company was willing to spend and 250 bucks was the lowest ballpark figure up to 5000 so can anyone tell me if this is free cuz i dont think it is...

The full version of XSI is quite expensive, the version released with HL2 will be free.

The version that the SDK will ship with is XSI|EXP. It's a version that has everything enabled, just there are watermarks in the viewport, renderregion and renders themselves. And it saves it's files in a special format other than what the regular XSI uses.
You can download EXP for free on the site already, the version they're gonna add with the SDK is this one but with special tools from Valve.

Thanks for the info guys :)

Watermarks bummer i hate that stuff hopefully there very small and non noticible.

They'll just be in the renders and viewports, not on the models, if that's what you mean.
