Conventional Warfare Mod (feedback please!)
A lot of you know who I am, be it on this name, selfdestruct, Chris-008, or Cylleruion2012. In any case, I've been a member here on one name or another for close to a year now (sometime in December 2003 was when I joined for the first time), and I have finally decided to start making a place for myself in the mod community.
I have two passions, film and gaming. Film is represented by the Halflife2.net Machinima project that I am trying to get off the ground, the link is in my profile. Now I want to make a mod.
I have an idea that's been in the making for about six months now - a mod called Conventional Warfare.
I can lead the project, do the design and such, as well as minor mapping, some texturing, and possibly concept art. I'm not one of the people who's like "hey i hav gud idea for mod u could liek make a mod with liek terists and counterterists who liek figth and thatd be gr8 so make it plz k thx".
The storyline is based in the not-so-distant future. China and a "coalition" of nations (around 2080) have begun the next world-scale war. A reign of conservative American leaders has annoyed them to the breaking point, and they have declared war. To make a lot of backstory short, a gigantic Chinese coalition army is invading the US from both coasts after several months of extended bombing that killed tens of millions of civilians. The American military is in fragments and the American people have risen to defend their country. The chinese are well supplied and well armed, but the adhoc resistance is passionate and determined. I have typed several pages of backstory but that is not important right now; it explains everything.
The gameplay is not very innovative to the genre, just some uncommon variations to the theme.
Three Teams:
Coalition - The chinese invaders. They are well armed and well supplied, with well-protected supply lines and air transportation. They are on every map.
Military - The remnants of the fragmented American military. They are well trained, disciplined, and armed. They have a few military vehicles left and mainly either act as guerillas or reinforce the major resistance strongholds.
Resistance - The average Americans who have risen up to defend their country. They are fairly well armed, since a reign of conservative leaders have relaxed gun laws, and they are extremely dedicated. They mass in the ruined cities of America or wander in large, disorganized groups, engaging any Coalition forces they come across with fierce passion.
The reinforcements for the game work sort of differently. Each game type has different win conditions, but in general there is a set amount of reinforcements for each team on each map, and then each 10-100 seconds (30 is default) a certain number is added to the reinforcements number for that team based on the number of players currently on that team. This causes players to think twice about wasting their lives on stupid charges.
There are several planned game types, but we will only implement a few to begin with - start small, then go big.
Assault is self explanatory - attackers have more reinforcements, defenders have less but a good position, attackers must take central objective by certain time, defenders either hold objective or annihalate enemy force.
Slaughter is all out war, two sides fighting it out in a big two sided map, like a trench battle.
Strategic Battle has control points, similar to Day of Defeat or Battlefield 1942. If one team takes all of the points, the other team may not respawn until they retake a point.
Ambush and Mayhem modes are also in planning, but I don't need to go into them unless there is support for this.
Weapons are vaguely similar to this, more futuristic and there are a lot of vehicles. No laser guns or space ships, but advanced projectile weaponry and helicopters, humvees and hovercraft (think James Bond).
If you have any questions, post and I'll answer.
I won't pursue this unless I interest some people, so please post feedback. My ideas might not have been that clear, so if you need clarification please say so.
