The blades are Kratos right? But I don't remember having any Ebony and Ivory.

Well to be fair he did ask to choose between only two options. Extending the poll to "What's the coolest video game weapon?" would have too many options to list.

Although it would have made for the better thread, and it's where this thread ended up going anyway.

But just two seems rediculously limited. There doesn't even seem to be any point in comparing these two. Swords versus pistols. It might have made sense if it had been Blades of Chaos versus Alastor or just "which of these ten videogame swords is cooler."
 
I figured he was comparing the two because DMC and GoW are in the same genre, rather than "coolest swords" or "coolest guns."

Are you kidding. Slow attack much? Maybe I should have been specific: Grief on an elite sword/axe, with IAS increase from other items and skills, with +400dmg mod (unlikely roll, but if you can pull it off...).

I don't know much about Diablo II, but in Diablo I had a Messerschmidt's Reaver that gave me power beyond all comprehension! Boosted me stats, drained the lifeblood of me victim, and best of all it was hacked to look like a sword but with all the axe's properties, so I could use a Stormshield with it. Now there was a weapon! Bounty hunted many a man with that, I did.
 
In D2 pretty much every melee build is relying on life leech or life steal or life tap. Damage isn't necessarily what you're going for either, but rather low frames per hit plus a high chance of Crushing Blow or Deadly Strike (in the case of DS you want higher damage for the weapon that's hitting, but if you're in the super high hit rate it doesn't have to be in Maul-territory). People say Open Wounds is as good/useful (it's like poison damage, except it's bleeding and there's no resist for it), but my current Barb has about 50% chance of OW, and it stacks, and it doesn't help overmuch.
 
Bah, The Rig is more'n the gravity gun could ever hope to be, but I doubt the lot of you even know what The Rig is.
 
Had I made a "best video game weapons evar" poll, I would have invariable forgotten an obvious one, and fans of the forgotten weapon would have gotten peeved. I've also been playing a lot of DMC and GoW lately, hence why I chose those two.

And I may or may not have gotten in an argument with a friend over this earlier...
 
Mike Patton's voice is a far more versatile and deadly weapon than any previously stated in this thread.

Best non-bladed melee weapon: The God Hand(s)
They're the HANDS OF GOD. Like, the God. Not a demi-god, not a god from a pantheon of other gods, not the god of war or even the god of punching things; these are God's hands. His arms, technically. You have to cut your own arm off and replace it to even get it to work, so it requires a small sacrifice on your part for immeasurable power. Why is it the best non-bladed melee weapon? Because with the God Hands you:

  • are invincible
  • gain the strength of God
  • gain the speed of God
  • can PUNCH SOMEONE OUT OF THE MILKY WAY GALAXY
  • you gain all kinds of powers, like creating an astral baseball bat to launch people into the atmosphere or smash the ground to pieces with your fist
  • it glows, which is cool
  • the God Hand keeps your pimp hand strong

Best bladed melee weapon: Unlimited Blade Works
I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body, and fire is my blood. I have created over a thousand blades. Unknown to life, nor known to death. Have withstood pain to create many weapons. Yet those hands will never hold anything. So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works.
You guys want to talk swords? How about ALL the swords? Unlimited Blade Works is a universe full of swords. It's a completely separate reality FULL OF SWORDS. That is the weapon. And not just any swords--EVERY sword. Unlimited Blade Works copies every sword, with all its special properties, albeit at one 'rank' lower. But any sword you could name--Alastor, Ultima Weapon, the Blades of Chaos, JC Denton's Dragon's Tooth Sword--Unlimited Blade Works creates them all.

The coolest part is, in the fighting game you actually have to input several commands that make Archer say each piece of the chant before you can summon it. Your opponent's got a chance of beating you before then, but after...it's not likely. Which is awesome. It's fun watching people freak out once you start saying, "I am the bone of my sword."


Best gun: Gunstar pistol
There is no gun better than the Gunstar pistol. It is the ultimate gun. In the world of video games you've got guns that shoot bullets, guns that shoot energy, guns that spew flame, and even guns that launch homing missiles. Well how about a single gun that does all of those? That's pretty cool, right? Now imagine you can take each one of those individual properties and combine it with another property?

You have a flamethrower? I combine flame and chaser and now my flames are FOLLOWING YOU AROUND THE SCREEN. You've got lasers? I've got lasers. But I equip lightning and flame and now I've got a lightsaber. What about homing bullets, or a laser that paints a target on every enemy onscreen and then rips them to shreds?

It's a gun that houses every type of projectile and can combine them into better things.


Best non-projectile environment-manipulation weapon: The Rig
It's the super gravity gun, just better. The Rig can lift anything, any weight. You can pick people up and slam them into a bloody pulp with it. You can hoist a villain the size of New York over your head. And whereas the gravity gun manipulates the zero point energy of an object, making it "levitate," the Rig produces an energy tether that can allow you to grapple onto things and swing from them, like Bionic Commando.

I don't think I know where any of those wepons come from. But I want that sword.
 
Sounds like the arms of God are an 'unarmed weapon' rather than non-bladed melee.
 
I guess you could think of it that way. But, in video games there aren't too many melee weapons that don't have a blade...I guess things like hammers, or maybe the crowbar.

Rizzo, Unlimited Blade Works is from a series of games called Fate/Stay Night. It was originally a "visual novel" game, and then Capcom made a fighting game off it called Fate/Unlimited Codes. Also someone made the Archer character for the MUGEN fighting engine; that has the whole "chanting" thing I was talking about. I don't know if you do the chants in Unlimited Codes...I think you might. Archer starts saying it mid-combo in the trailer.

Oh and, the other weapons:

God Hands are from God Hand
Gunstar pistol is from Gunstar Heroes
The Rig is from Wild 9

And yeah, I know it's kick, but then people who've never played the game would say, "Well wait how are you kicking them out of the galaxy if it's the God HANDS?"

Plus Home Run God also knocks people out of the galaxy. And Home Run God is cooler than Dragon Kick.
 
God Hand pretty much sucked in Phantasy Star Online... it was an unarmed weapon. Basically you fought like unarmed but with great speed, some nifty movement trails, and increased attack damage.

What game are you referring to exactly?
