cooling a amd 3500 64

Side fans generally do not aid an efficent cooling setup. Although direct air from the outside onto the CPU still would be nice and 120mm fans generally are quiet.

Just don't put it in the center of the case, those do absolutely nothing. /me shudders

Just try to balance the CFM (amount of air) for intake and exhaust. If it is taking in more air than it exhausts then you get high pressure. If it exhausts more air than it can bring it then you get low pressure. Either way you would have higher temps than if they were balanced.

That's why I took off my fan which was a blow hole and came with my case.

On what heatsync? Are you planning on using the one you got with the CPU. I have the same CPU and I'm using the heatsync i got with it, I took off the fan and put a Thermaltake 80MM one on there. It's running at 5800 RPM, it's pretty loud lol. The temp are 38C Idle and up to 50C on Load. If your planning on buying that Fan and using the stock heatsync it wont fit, it could only fit 80MM fans on it. Its a pretty nice fan tho.

heres what im thinking

the 120mm(screwed on the side) will be right on top of the stock heatsink, i might get the xp-120 or xp-90, im not sure, but the exhaust will be right next to it. standard atx case

the best set up for efficient case cooling is to have 1 intake at the front and one exhaust at the rear. I have 2x120 mm fans set up in that configuration along with an xp90 and 92mm fan on the CPU. Ive overclocked my s939 newcastle 3500+ to 250MHz FSB x10mp and CPU temps never go above 43 degrees centigrade...
