Hi, ive been looking at the Volcano 12 and i was wondering, is it really really good? are there any other ones you would recommend? (under 40$)

i saw it had 100,000 hours or so, is that good?

thx

I know nothing about the cooler. But 100,000 hours? That seems high.

That means it will run continously for...
- 4,167 days
- or 11.4 years
- or a little over a decade
- or a tenth of a century
- or a hundredth of a millenium

:naughty:

hmmmm... i like tenth of a century most >:P

wow, he can devide, i guess high school algrebra works.
i myself never went to calculus, stoped at trig.

get zalman 7000cooper cooler, its what i hear is the best for cpu.

Volcano series are for those who wan't to buy better cooling yet don't know what is better cooling.
They are OK for aftermarket coolers but they are way too loud for how effective they are.

Look up thermalright SLK series or Zalman heatsinks. They give you lower temps, better/more options and for the same cooling they will never be as loud.

I personally own a Thermalright SLK800u. Bolts to the board with 4 spring loaded screws so there is no unsecure clip. Very low temps. I have a silent 2000RPM fan on mine and the load temp only goes 15C higher than the case temp (Load = Prime95 testing). Can fit 70mmx25mm, 70x38, 80x25, and 80x35 fans. Choose your own fan, fast or low RPM etc. I hear zalmans are great as well.

Coolmaster Aero coolers were pretty good too (better than volcano but not as good as Therm./Zalm.) but I havn't seen any around on sites recently.

Okay, thanks. ive been wanting to OC so i have been looking for a better cooloer for my athlon xp

ied say he knows about his computer parts. i take his word

For some reson i started thinking that the FAN was important not the heat sink..weird lol, anyway,
Is SP-97 the best or Thermalright SLK800u? this is for a A7N8X-E, athlon Xp 2800

thanks

Yeah, the heatsink is probably the most important factor. The whole idea is to remove heat from your processor. If you have a block of aluminum sitting on your CPU and a fan blowing on it, the fan will cool the top of the block, leaving the bottom to get hotter and hotter. That's just an extreme example though to give you the idea.

Anyway, they are both important, and I personally own a Zalman CNPS7000A and a Vantec Aeroflow. I'd much prefer the Zalman, but both work like a charm. And to answer your question, I'd say the SLK800u.

Okay thanks ill prob order one of them today.

btw what are the diffrences with the SLK800u and Sp97? thanks.
