Cops vs Skaters

Well, that's in my experience anyway. Note that the middle 50% I'm basing that on are usually traffic or patrolling cops.

I think there's some statistics being pulled out of some poopers here. My Mom was a dispatcher and she's always told me the majority of the cops are wonderful people. They really do risk their lives everyday and not for a whole lot of money. She said there were a couple questionable cops in their way of going about things, but for the most part, a really good force.

However, one department can differ from another.

He's not talking about the girl at this point I don't think, iirc at the beginning of the video there's a photo of a kid on the ground with the cop's hands around his neck.

Personally I think that both sides ****ed up here. From personal experience I know that cops are dicks to skateboarders by default (anyone who's ever skated knows this; getting kicked out of places is a pretty regular thing), but I imagine those 13-year-old wannabe skatepunks started messing around. If a cop tells you to stop, you stop. If he tells you to leave, you leave. You don't stand around trying to act tough and argue and you certainly don't cut and run like a few of those stupid kids did. The cop used more force than was necessary in my opinion, and he was a monstrous prick, but he is not soley at fault.

Fuzzy shot, it looks like he's choking the kid, but you honestly can't tell from that angle and distance.

He may have been a monstrous prick, but there was no brutality here.

And you're just a ****ing moron. Thinking a girl can't handle that treatment is an insult to women you sexist little shit.

A 12/13 year old girl grasped in a head lock for rolling around on a piece of wood constitutes as assault my narrow minded little friend. How on earth does it make me sexist when I merely pointed out the extreme physical handling of an under age girl like that? If she had a weapon or was using physical violence I would understand, but this guy's actions were bang out of order and so was your pathetic response.

Drop the insecurities and think before you post next time, it'll save yourself from looking like a bigger ****tard than you already are.

I was watching Cops the other day, and I saw this one lady that looked like life rode her a little too hard(perhaps the other way around) and the cops were searching her car. The only thing the officer found was a crack pipe. The lady instantly started denying it, of course. The cop then put it into an evidence bag and started asking her again, "Is this crack pipe yours, ma'am?". She continued claiming that it was in fact not hers. The cop then said " We are gona find out anyway once we bring this back and test for fingerprints". The lady instantly confessed. I find this particular "white lie" pretty messed up. Fingerprints are of course forensics, and forensics can only be used in murder and grand larceny (anything above $250,000....correct me if I'm wrong), not possession of perophenalia. Ridiculous, but it worked. Maybe its just the fact that honesty is such a big thing to me, and its so comforting to know that some Beholders of The Law(could be alot more than you think) lie to bust you. The lady still broke the law though, I'm not on either side, she should just know better.

There are some very respectable and honest cops which I hold in high regard because it seems that these days, its getting harder to find those quality people.

Girl1: I WANT EAQUAL RIGHTS TO VOTE!!
Girl2: I WANT EQUAL PAY IN THE WORKPLACE!!
Girl3: I want to be JUST as equal as men!!

Corperate America: Hey, since you're woman, you get cheaper insurance! Is that OK?

Girls: YAAAYY!!!

My thoughts exactly.

Assault? Are you ****ing retarded? Again, what the **** would you rather have him do, tackle the bitch for running away? No, in fact the cop was extremely restrained in handling her.
He didn't put her in a headlock because she was skateboarding, he put her in a headlock because she ran away. Note what I said there: she ran away from a cop. Do you expect him to let her go? Again I ask, are you retarded? And note that he DID LET HER GO. Seems like everyone missed out that part.

And I note you say nothing of the handling of the boy. Cause a girl can't handle it? Give me a break.

Everyone calm down a little please.

Stern, watch the scene again. That wasn't a chokehold, he basically put his arm around her neck to restrain her. It's a basic maneuver that can cause no harm to the person it's performed on. Remember, he let her go. Does no one notice that?

which makes it even worse ..you say he choked her to prevent her from escaping ..if so why did he let her go? the whole point behind restraint is well ..restraint ..if he tried to restrain her he should have finished the job and put her in those little plastic cuffs you see on cops. He may have let her go because he had a temporary moment of realization that what he was fdoing was wrong ..i mean a police officer should/would never let go of a suspect because that puts them in danger immediately

Face it, all of you just want to put blame on the cop because hating the government is fun.

if that's true then the opposite must therefore be true for you as well ..you're supporting the incident DESPITE the fact that the poilice force, HIS police force that he was guilty of assualt

I suspect you either want to be a cop or know cops because this isnt the first time you've defended the police despite the fact that the material presented almost always looked bad for the cops in question

He let her go because he was trying to hold the guy as well, he couldn't hold and cuff both, so he let the girl go.

/tries to think of cops he knows
/fails miserably
/tries to think if he ever dreamed of being a cop
/comes up with nothing

Nope, sorry. There's a huge difference between looks bad and is bad. People are too willing to blame the cop and it pisses me off.

your right, people do tend to blame the cops for the wrongdoing, but I've skated since I was a little kid and I've seen plenty of cops do stuff like this. Not to that extreme, of course, but still highly ridiculous/pretty damn close.

Cops hate kids
This cop strangles kids

Some of the skateboarders were shits.

The cop was a ****ing ogre.

End of topic.

personally, I don't care what skater/bike punks do, their pain is my happiness. but it has been from my experiance that most are ask/forced to leave due to insurance reasons. i.e. skater comes along, grinds on a rail, falls down, gets hurt, sees no sign saying "no skating/biking allowed on these premises!", sees dollar signs, gets lawyer. but like i said, thats from my experiance. if they refuse to leave or keep showing up even tho they have been told not to skate/bike there, the cops might be called. you got to keep in mind, in a city, pretty much everything is considered private property, and people do not like having their stuff messed with in anyway shape or form.

Hmmm... I've been riding skateboards for 20+ years and find everyone in this video to be cretins. Skateboarding where you shouldn't be requires some finesse to do it right (not get caught nor ruin the scene, etc.) and without the original shot of what happened, I'm skeptical. I've seen skaters do a lot of really shitty things to the local fuzz - what happened before the scene started? The cop's no ball of fire either, but when a cop tries to arrest you, don't screw around. Their lame attempt at blaming it on skateboarding doesn't work either - they're being popped for resisting arrest. Things like this just make skateboarding worse for the rest of us.

Oh, cops...

as a pretty devoted skater, I've had to deal with them plenty of times, and I still don't know how to feel. I mean, yeah, they're stopping me from having fun, but really, it's their job. And you can tell that a lot of them don't like being put in that position- I've even had one tell me that he skated when he was younger, and he'd probably join in if it weren't his job.

On the other hand, power-hungry f*cks like this just plain suck.

From my previous work place, *a fast food joint* we were across the street from a kid refuge/skate park/Christian organization. Well, for an hour, EVERY kid gets kicked out of there, and the adults go out and eat or some shit. Well, they come over to our store, and skateboard outside, come in, loud as hell, break salt/pepper shakers, just be little shits. And when skating outside, they go in front of cars, hit cars, everything you'd hate from them.

So in my personal experience, **** them.

They wern't restrained for skateboarding, they were restrained for resisting arrest?

So they were arrested for resisting arrest?

Most times I side with the cops, but this is just an example of a cop overwhelmed without any idea how to control the situation. The kids seemed relatively reasonable when he was talking to them so why not just calmly tell them to leave the area.

We didn't actually see what led up to the video so I cant say for sure, but if it was just kids skating around, thats ridiculous.

Every single cop I've met IRL have been the nicest people ever. Most of them even offer to drive you home if you are passed out on the street.

That's why I find this cop's behavior unacceptable; his main duty is to serve the people, and I don't think he had that in mind when he assaulted these kids.

Some cops just have it out for teenagers, who are stereotyped as anti-authority and deviant. They LOVE giving teenage drivers tickets.

Agree about most cops being decent people, but this guy gives them a bad rap.
Watching this I had a slight urge to bust that skateboard over his slippery dome. Cop or not, some people deserve violence because it is all they understand.

rule 1: you don't talk back to the Police.
rule 2:you don't run from the Police.

I don't know which side I'd be on.

On one hand I am a skater so that's why I'd favor the skaters

but

on the other hand I want to be a cop when I leave school so that's why I'd be on the cops side.
That's a poor perspective to have. You don't have to support all skaters everywhere or all cops everywhere.

If you watch the unedited video (I think it's on liveleak.com) it's very clear the cop was way out of line.

rule 1: you don't talk back to the Police.

Because two-way dialogue calls for a chokehold.

I never understood how the emanation of sounds from one's vocal cords could be considered interference with police work or resisting arrest.

ya but that pretty much describes all teens ..whether they're annoying or not they dont deserve to be assaulted for simply being skaters ..look I'm the first one in this community who can be best describe as someone who's most likely to yell "get off my lawn you lousy kids" but in this instance the cop was way outta line

It's true.

I look like I'm 17-18 (I'm 24). I've had a few cops come up to my car & act like complete assholes when I did nothing wrong really. It's always something like interrogating and chewing me out for (as far as I could figure out) nothing except "driving a little fast." (4 mph over)

I also had a run-in with a racist cop . . . and I'm . . . white. I couldn't prove anything including my innocence because "they couldn't find the tape," which automatically makes me guilty? Wish I had money for a good lawyer at the time.

That's like 13 year olds with server admin rights. I'm serious.

Hey. I dont abuse my admin rights ok.

I barely even slay people. only for really extreme stuff like fights on servers(singapores really small, stuff can happen although its online) i mute em. i only slay for spraying other players and TF spam
