Core 2 Duo or AMD X2

I've always been an ATI fanboy and I really do love ATI cards, great performance. But now the XFX 7900GT 256mb has a great price so I was wondering If I should buy it now and buy another and use it in SLI more close to christmas.

7900GT should be able to run Crysis on maximum detail right? compared to one single X1900XT, wont last long.

It's still about €270 here, compared to €260 for the x1900xt (quite a bit faster) and €199 for the x1900gt (as fast as the 7900gt).

They will not run crysis at max detail simply because crysis will support DX10, which the current gfx cards don't. And it's not fast enough.

I don't think even the first generation of DX10 cards will be able to run Crysis in all it's graphical goodness.

Bugs and glitches could mostly be a big problem with them.

Try not to think and wait untill we see what it can do.

Btw, Garfield, the Intel chipset mobo's don't support SLI IIRC, only Crossfire.

It just is. And it's cheaper :p

Yep, it just is. Ofcourse the 7900gt performs a little better in DOOM 3 (NOT quake 4, quite the opposite), but other than that the x1900gt wins. And it has better image quality too. Plus the €80 you save, it's a good deal.

And as the production of X1900XT cards are going down I think I'm better of buying a X1900GT now and upgrade later :)

Yep thats what I'm going to do.

Is there any chance an X800XT can be better than the X1900GT?

Get the X1900GT (more shaders).

The X1800XT-512 is faster then the X1800XT-256 & the X1900GT-256 BUT the X1900GT-256 beats the X1800XT-256 for the same price BUT the X1800XT-512 is alot more money. :E

Whats the big difference with X1900XT and X1900GT, is it possible to overclock the GT to XT performance?

The XT is more expensive :p

Just go for the GT and wait for the DX10 cards to come out I would say.

Check And compare: Core-speed, Memory Interface (Type, Size and speed Of memory), Pixel-pipelines and Pixel shader processors, DVI Outlet, Max Resolution and prices of the two Video Cards.

Then decide.

Good Luck.

I'm still thinking whether the extra €60 is worth the extra performance... I think not. But anyway, by the time I'm finally getting one, there will probably be new good alternatives from Nvidia.

Sad thing is that X1900GT is unavailable atm. Will have to wait until the stores get some more

The GT is a great card.

Solid 80 fps w/ AF x8 AA x2 and HDR on the Source engine.

:D

Didn't the X1900XT drop in price with the new X1950XTX introduction?

They did in the UK. At the moment they can be had for around £200, which is a bit of a steal imo. I'm planning on picking one up and using it till the 3rd or 4th generation of DX10 cards come out and Vista drops in price and has a few updates.

QFT......

That's the way these stuff should be approached.
When Prices drop, bugs, glitches and flaws are rooted out, is when I will upgrade.
ATM, X2, 7900GTX and DX9 are well alive and still kicking any game you throw at them and they don't necessarily need upgrading.
I'm sure I will have to deal with Vista at work and I will be forced to take some Vista courses at work, but not for personal purposes for a while.

Good Luck.

Intel's Core 2 Quadro Kentsfield

Intel Core 2 Quadro with 2.66 GHz and a total of 8 MB L2 cache. Four processing units are packed inside a single CPU package.

Our processor samples could be overclocked to 3.33 GHz without even raising the core voltage. The sample was factory-set to a speed of 2.66 GHz and a bus speed of 266 MHz.

Quad core would be awesome...if I had 4 applications that demanded full CPU performance. If only we could somehow get rid of our hard drive bottleneck.

With Vista! Storing all your major applications on a flash drive\flash cache( on Hybrid HD) so you can get them into the RAM extremely quick.

Do you guys think 4 cores will be that useful any time soon? We're barely using 2 at the moment. These Kentsfield are likely to cost alot when they're released and I doubt they'll give much, if any, benefit (for games). Perhaps in a year or two when more apps support that many cores and they're cheaper.

Hah, I seriously doubt it. Maybe when vista comes out....but until we see an OS that rely's heavaliy on dual cores will we see software that uses it. Although a lot of creative software is dual proc already......when I do video editing on my mac it renders on one core and lets me keep editing on the other.......

Yeah I use up 2 cores easy. But 4 cores for desktop use...
