VU was against Steam from the beginning and hates Steam, then says Valve you can not activate HL2 on Steam till Nov 16th because we want to be able to sell retail to compeat with Steam, then once the retail stores break the rules and release the game before there suppost to then VU crys to Valve saying dont let the retail games activate through Steam till Nov 16th, so in essents Steam saving VU a** cause the retailers broke the rules making Steam buyers suffer to wait. :x

The release date is slated for the 16th in the contract between Vivendi and Valve. If Valve broke the contract by releasing the game earlier than the 16th, Vivendi would have a field day in court. Valve is just making sure that Vivendi won't sue their asses for any other stupid thing.

NO my point was that steam saved VU ass for not allowing retail gamers being able to play till Nov 16th.

I know alot of you are sore about not being able to have HL2 this past weekend, but VU isnt some evil Villain. Like Bait said, there are contractual obligations here. Trust me, Valve and Vivendi dont need any more lawsuits then they already have.

Don't get your painties in a bunch. 2 more days and you wont even give a crap about the little broken street date problem.

good grief, I guess im a dumbass. The point i was trying to make is that VU hates steam cause its eating into there profits BUT in the end Steam saves there butts making it impossable for retail gamers to play untill the 16th, it was a complament to STEAM.

ok say this VU under a lawsuit prohibited hl2 to be bought over steam, but needs to be activated over steam then the retailers sell the game before there suppost to , then VU crying to Valve no noooooo dont let them play till the 16th, I just thought it was commical how VU hates steam then Steam saves them at the end.

Think about this, the game would get pirated if it got activated early. This way they save money.

I think that's exactly his point.

I fully understand what you're saying, Bastion.

I'm curious, are shops actively selling HL2 now or are they still waiting for the 16th? I don't live in USA and I've got mine off steam, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on with all this mess.

I don't know why Vivendi would hold to a silly 16th street date for selling the game anyway. IMO it would make sense to get it out on the shop ASAP, just with stickers on the boxes that say "full gameplay will be unlocked on the 16th". This way VUG can be more assured of getting sales from retail rather than over steam - people see it at their shop and buy it, rather than not see it, then go home and get it off steam. Not releasing till the 16th also stops pre-release piracy, and putting the copies on the shop floor would also stop /some/ people from pirating it straight off the bat like they otherwise might have (people who intend to go buy it later, for example).

Agreed Lanthanide, I love Steam I run a CS:S server on our Linux box in NYC I like how my bud build a update script to update the server through Steam. IMO Steam is just as or more inovated in its creation as HL2. I think Steam should be given an award.
