Could this be a new weapon?

Well it's obvious when you think about it. We have all seen it clearly in the videos, but I have not noticed anyone make the connection. I'm talking about another shotgun: that big ornate looking thing father Gregory carries around! If you could somehow kill him and continue playing, I wonder if you could pick up his gun and use it? Hmm...

Looks like he gets his butt kicked pretty good without your help. Though... so do you in that clip. :)

Be kinda stupid weapon to carry around though: you'd never use it, and where would you find ammo for it?

I don't think this needed another thread, but good point. I suppose it depends on if the game will continue if you kill Father Gregori.

Of course it would just be like a novelty weapon. I'd probably use a couple times just for fun and then dump it (assuming there is a limit to the amount of weapons you can carry). But it would be cool all the same, add a bit of unique-ness to the world.

And I assume it would use the same kind of ammo as your regular shotgun, just reload a bit differently perhaps.

You know that part where you are running through the forrest with Father Gregory? Those things that come running at you...I just thought that maybe they are those Race-X creatures with the two front limbs that kind of had blades pointing down on them. They were about 3-4 feet tall...they kind of look alike.

I doubt he will die unless/untill he is required to (if at all), and if all ur gonna have at that point is the pistol/crowbar, then he will probbally be escorting YOU most of the way :O, you gotta admit though, when the zombie first lands in front of him and he gets that shot off before it jumps on him, the animation looks so cool lol.

On the topic of new guns, notice how the mp7 now has an added grenade launcher (watch the crane vid) like in HL1 ? I wonder how they implement the player being able to use it, because the mp7 already has a secondary fire: the scope. Do you think there's a tertiary fire?

Also (don't flame me if this has been mentioned) in the crane vid in the bottom left hand corner, where it says "AUX POWER," it also says "SPRINT" under the progress bar, so I'm pretty sure it's the suit's power assist for movement. Just noticing new stuff.

The seconday fire for the MP7 isn't a scope, zooming is a function of the HEV suit now. You can see that he does it with other weapons, too.

And I can tell you that if I was at the controls of that graveyard scene Father Grigori would definately be getting out of that encounter alive.

i wanna save father grigori! he looks hardcore!

on an unrelated note...dont you just wanna kick elis ass when he says 'get you back into your lab coat where you belong'

its like, shut up cripple, i saved the world once, now im gunna do it again. i work for the g-man and he has big time backup.... hehe

I would say that those creatures are just rotting corpses that the zombies have taken over. How they move so quickly is beyond me.

Also that gun that Father Gregory uses looks more like those lever action rifles they used in the Old West than a shotgun.

Did you hear the screams at the end after the screen blacked out? Those were not human screams, even for corpses. They seemed like a kind of monkey to me.

I have to admit being able to use that shotgun would be pretty cool.

those are pretty creepy zombies!!

I guess valve noticed that typical zombies are too slow and you can easily ignore them .. I mean hey, just walk by them .. and by the time they realize someone walked by.. it would be too late for them to attack you!

by the way, that scene fades mysteriously while you can still hear shots .. does the zombie completly cover your face? or did it reload the scene because father gregory died?

The creature is one of the new zombie types.

There are now atleast 3 types of headcrab that cause different mutations.

don't know where I heard this *I KNOW it wasn't from stolen build* But aren't those things called Howlers?

I believe that the player died if im not mistaken.

But I'm sure that winchester rifle that Father Gregory had will be a nice weapon to kill him for after you have beaten SP once.

Actually, it makes a lot of sense. It looks like around 60% of their body parts have rotted away, leaving only the skeleton and some chunks of muscle and skin that hold it all together and move the limbs.

If the living human originally weighed the same as Gordon (85 kilos), then the new zombie would weigh scant (estimated) 34 kilos.

With that little weight, fluid movement like leaps and speedy attacks would be pretty easy.

i believe they are PROWLERS, not howlers. the concept art of the prowlers looked all fast and leet and stuff.

Nah the things that attack u and father Greg. are known as 'Fast Zombs' i think

those zombies cane the trigens from Far Cry, easily.
Mainly because the animation looks smooth as anything, plus they seem alot more unique just from looking at them

Prowlers look more like combine assassins than Xen creatures. I don't think it's a prowler.

well then, if they're not prowlers, or zombies... they shall be called: "f**king fast bastards"

Well, at the moment there's actually no limit to how many weapons you can carry, it's changed since last year's e3 presentation. It may change again, though.

I'm still sure I heard someone call them howlers in one of the videos or interviews somewhere...

I was under the impression that headcrabs need a living host they are probably mutating their host in a different manner than we are used to or the hos is an animal not a human (monkey maybe?)

The fact that they are in a graveyard is incidental. We know there will be three different type of headcrabs I doubt they bury into the ground claw through a casket and then hope thheir are acceptable remains.

Scary. With every new thing, this game just looks harder and harder. And scary as hell to boot. I think I'll try and play during daylight. :|

Speaking of new weapons, what is that resistance operative carrying at the start of the Strider battle, just after the "Ravensholm" bit?

I'd get a screenie, but the damn thing just comes out black... I'm talking about the one that looks at you and says "Get down, Freeman!"...

Indeed, I wondered what that was as well. Some kind of large assault rifle or grenade launcher, maybe?

Picture:

On inspection, it doesn't seem to fire any large projectiles, more like bullets.

Edit: In fact, the guy on the left of the blue guy has the same weapon, it definitely seems to be some kind of rapid-firing assault rifle or something.

Someone in another thread thinks it's the IRifle/IR Rifle/whatever... the one with the bunch of what looks like canisters at one end...

It doesn't seem to fire normal bullets, it looks as if it is firing plasma. I think it's also the same weapon that is mounted on the water vehicle, on that helicopter scene.

It could be the IR gun, actually. But that would mean we've seen it firing flare grenades, those anti-matter projectiles and these plasma-type bullets.

Three-button mouse functionality?

Or maybe the RMB selects the firing mode, and the LMB fires?

Could be... though the blue bullets => incendiary grenades => Strider beam series seems a little odd...
