Now that I have steam, counter strike has been acting weird. I haven't played cs for very long at all so I was wondering if you could help.

When I'm playing, somtimes soon after I connect, my latency (same as ping right) will go through the roof and sometimes I will get a message of something like 'cl_FlushEntityPacket' Of course, its real hard to play when you can't move or do anything. Sometimes it will go away and I can resume playing for a bit until it does it again (sometimes).

Any help is appriciated. :)

Do you have a cable modem?
If so, enter these commands into the console:

rate 25000
cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100

Try that, and report back.

I have a wireless dsl connection.

I'll try them, but what do they do? ;)

They basically change the rate at which data packets are sent and received. By default, they're set horribly low for most broadband users. Those are general settings which should work for most broadband connections.
If you're still a little laggy after changing those, try dropping the rate to 20000

I typed all thoes in on 2 servers but it only made it worse. I didn't even get to move at all.

Wireless DSL, erp.

Try :

rate 15000
cl_updaterate 60
cl_cmdrate 60

If you still continue to lag, lower them some more untill it becomes acceptable.

Hrm, sounds reasonable.

But yeah, the key here is, keep lowering the settings until it's stable and you don't lag

Ok, I'll try that righ away.

thx for the help.

or simply try adjusting it in your steam options menu, I had lag once and doing that helped I think

That only adjusts the rate.. not cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate

make sure your connection is set to T1 in the steam settings

I got an ever bigger problem, my CS is v1.0, and there is no way for me to update it.

No, you have to pay them £100 to download it.
