Counter-Strike Source Beta Phase 2 - Now Open

Yeah, Chris_D... pretty rude that you didn't give props to Pobz for using his screenshots! Especially considering the slightest bit of info anyone finds they are usually thanked for!

apart from anything, its just damn interesting to see what kinds of systems all us HL2 fans are sporting...

The Benchmark requires the HL2 engine, which only beta testers have on there HD to play CSS.

To release it to non beta testers would mean distributing the hl2 engine with it, so its quite big, not worth it tbh.

Very true.

The HL2 engine is about 2mb - the only thing you'd need with that is the content (GUI/Textures).

AthlonXP 2400 (266MHz FSB)
512MB PC2700
ATI 9600XT AIW
Everything on high with no AA/AF in 1024x768 window

VST:
With stuff running in the background: 50fps
Without stuff running in the background: 50fps

Playing (on own with server running in background):
Around 60fps with some stuttering during grenade explosions near barrels.

Just spent about 40 minutes running round the map shooting barrels and glass jars. HL2 and CS Source are gonna be amazing. No doubts at all. Not that I ever had any :p

someone found out that you can still use thirdperson if you set sv_cheats 1.

So start the map up, put in sv_cheats 1, then thirdperson and then use cam_idealyaw pitch and roll to at least get a close up of the shader blocks.

So, what framerate can I expect having this setup:
Pentium 4 w/HT Prescott 2.52ghz / 1024MB RAM 333mhz DDR
MSI Neo2 LS 800mhz FSB w/1MB Cache
Nvidia 5600 128mb (upgaded soon to 6800 256mb)

Nobody with a medium configuration to test it ?

AMD 2000+ 1,6 Ghz
nVidia GForce 4 Ti 4200
1024*768 with antialiasing 0x and anisotropic filter 4x

Should be pretty decent if you use the DX8 path. You'll have to wait for the 6800 to get all the pretty DX9 shader effects and stuff.

Well here is a system that doesn't have such a l33t GFX as the previous ones to give the guys with outdated hardware an idea of what to expect.

Barton 3000+
512 DDR333
GF 4 Ti4200 128mb (8x AGP)

Everything on high on 1024x768. AA 0x and Trilinear Filtering
42 FPS

800x600 gives 62FPS with the same settings as above although I do experiance gfx glitches. Lots of purple all over shiny/reflective objects. Something that the higher resolutions don't give me. Kinda weird.

So you don't need the latest and greatest for the game to run nicely. I must tell you the game looks fantastic with all the effects working on a Direct X8 card.

my specs:

athlon 2600+ (200x11.5)
512mb OCZ
128mb 9800 pro (405/350)

i got about 30.42 average fps running at 1600x1200 with everything on max 6xAA 16xAF
