I dunno, i've been playing source recently trying to work out why all these beginners call kill me so easy, and my relatively good aim misses...please do not think this is one of those sad CS kiddy threads complaining. Im just trying to work my way into CS Source.

CS 1.6 i'm a good player not excellent, but when i aim and get a headshot tis my kill. In source i get no such luck. I'm confused to why when you sidestep blood comes out the 'air' next to you, where i 'was' standing and i take damage. Are the hitboxes lagging behind or something? Am i missing something here (not literally) :rolling:
This being my playing style, i just die alot, and get the occassional lucky kill :)

With this in mind, i experimented with NO stepstepping, and just running in parallel lines AT the enemy, just shooting with any rifle. It seems that you hit them in the face and they can't hit you. Maybe im just looking into it too much, but its a technique that seems to be working for me and my mates who are new to source. (so like 6 other people as well as me, which made me think it may not just be experiencing this)

So is source more aimed towards basic tactics running at enemies to compensate for the new players out there who bought source, and for the veteran 1.6 and previous versions to be disregarded? I may have a warped mind, but its how i feel. I'm hoping in future updates that i will be able to sidestep in order to dodge sprays and not die every time i see an enemy. I've seen plenty of people turning away from it already for similar reasons, and back to 1.6.

There may be nothing to fix, but this is something i'd like them to change! Better hitboxes. Sorry for the rant, please if you have similar experiences / information on this / help on my paranoia feel free to reply. Cheers.

It's pretty well known that CS:S has terrible hitboxes in general. I remember a guy recording a video with a hitbox console command enabled, letting you see them, and the hitboxes were behind the actual model a few steps.

I'd really appreciate if you could find that video for me, so i could put my mind at rest, because i get quite frustrated and angry, and its not fair on the other players. If i could just know in my mind that theres something wrong, i can stay away from the game hopefully.

btw does anyone else get these weird korean / symbols and random stuff in the text box as the writing fades away? Fixes? (another pet hate against source :) )

I do a lot of side-stepping myself and find the same thing. That my shots seem to miss. Sometimes after spinning around someone and shooting at them (and dying) I am miffed to find I didn't even hit them even thought I was pretty close. I may have to modify my style and see how I do. It's not that I do badly. I am usually one of the top on the server but when I sidestep I just don't do as well as I used to in 1.6. I get mad too!!!

A few tips for you ((Since ive been playing source for a while))
A. When rounding corners, jump and then crouch while you turn around... This will give you incredible aim. ((First 3 shots pin point))
B. When side stepping, stop by pressing the opposite key... If you are going right hold down left. Shoot. Rinse, repeat.
C. When you are caught in a fight, instantly crouch... You might be an easier headshot but you also have way more chances to kill.

I side step all the time, and jump as well. But than again, I exclusively use the 12 Guage. I used to play 1.4 or 1.5.. never played 1.6.

I've meet alot of 1.6 ophiles that have thier communities, because its hard to switch to a "new" game. Its hard to own on 1.6, and than be a mediocre player in source. But I just dont understand, for the life of me why, because 1.6 looks like CRAP, w/ CRAPPY OLD PHYSICS... its just old, and doesnt even stand up to Source in terms of satisfaction levels of killing people, and the immersivness. I've had more fun playing source than I've ever had playing 1.6. The main reason is that I've been playing w/ a friend alot, and we both run hardcore w/ 12 Guages, hunting down snipers. There is nothing more satisfying than putting down a sniper w/ a 12 Guage :afro: Last night I went 35 and 10 on Dust2 , and my buddy went 30/8 on Italy w/ only 12 Guages :afro: You get to taste the new physics much more.. intimately w/ a 12 Guage, than when you are sniping people w/ rifles ;)

These are really good tips... It's worked for me.

Indeed you can have a few fun games but they are FEW and far between. I can't believe you think the physics are great. They have no impact on the game at all, considering they've been degraded to nearly nothing. HL2/DM physics should be used and would make it much better. I do not appreciate bouncing off every object like its rubber. With relation to how it looks...the maps i cannot disagree about at all, they look much better. But if you have skinned the players/guns with certain skins (i use CS Realism Pack FE, which is awesome, everything looks like new) then its just as good as source if not better. In fact the guns are 100% better on that pack than the source default ones (the fusion pack for source is a poor effort in all honesty) But the looks and lack of physics don't come into it. I believe the hitboxes should be in the character framework which stops them colliding with walls as Chris D said. From my perspective i find it hard to see CS source as a decent game. The numbers have dropped much more since when it started already...i don't believe it will overtake 1.6 untill some big changes are made.

for one thing you wont hit bugger all if you side step and run backwards or forwards as it has been shown that in source accuracy goes all over the place if you are moving and firing. Only run at someone and fire if your close enough to stick your gun up their nose. So when you see someone gun permitting just crouch and fire, getting some good shots in.

I was playing with bots a little while ago, and was spectating (i got :sniper: -ed). when the bots fire at a moving target, they fire to the opposite side of which they're running (counter-intuitive to me :S) and still manage to hit them. I suppose the only way to account for this is to say that the hit-boxes remain for a short while after a player has moved.

I have seen this behavior before watching someone play after I've died. The sights lag behind the target yet there still seems to be blood and death. I have always accounted it to lag. I myself have always lead a person running and sprayed towards them or tried to aim right at them. Maybe the idea is to trail the person and shoot towards them. My strat used to work with 1.6 but the targets are obviously different in Source. Imagine an FPS that trains you NOT to aim at your target!

The hit boxes do seem to be off by a couple of feet. I see an enemy and go back behind the wall for cover, my guy is already well covered, a couple of feet in and im dead. lying on the ground a couple of feet behind cover with blood on the wall a couple of feet to the side of my body... really pisses me off sometimes.
My brother gets so mad @ the game. after every time he plays I have to clean the monitor from all his cussing!

I think it's in the first post of this thread. :)
