counterstrike to halflife2

if counterstrike worked fine on my old computer would halflife 2 work fine. is there any way, other than buying and taking apart my comp, of making the game run better.

You could do the usual things like defragmenting your hard drive, getting the latest drivers etc.

You probably can play HL2, to some degree. For better preformance, nothing is going to make a truely significant change except an upgrade.

A hard disk contains many small 'containers' (forgot correct word), that can store files. Files often span many containers, since they are bigger than them. The more containers it spans, and the further apart they are, the slower the OS is at getting a file.

Defragmenting basically re-arranges files so that they are more continous (plus other stuff), making file access faster. To do it click on (or nagivate to) your 'My Computer', right click on the harddrive you want to defrag, the click properties.

There you'll see a 'tools' tab. Click that and you'll see the option to defrag the harddisk. NOTE: You need at least 15% of soace free to do it properly.
