cpu coating on gpu

Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound

can i put this on my cpu and on my gpu? or is it only made for 1 of the two?
 
Um? ceramic cases? It comes in plastic tubes, and the CPU and GPU are made of copper and silicone, if he hasn't got one from pre 2000 :P
 
No, I was talking about the chips... they usually have ceramic cases... I was just worried about the GPU being one of those ones with the weird plastic case like I once had... I dunno if they even make them like that anymore...

But I'd say you could use it on both of them...

EDIT: You oughta get that tongue of yours checked out, MaxiKana... it's abnormally red :p.
 
Um a GPU is the Graphics Processing Unit wich is the core of the modern day graphics card, they do not come in any cases, they are fixed on a graphics card inside a static bag when you buy them :P
 
my card is asus9800xt and cpu is p4 3.0 ht, so i should be fine right? its a universal heat obsorber is it not?

Yeah, that's what I thought...

I was just worried about the possible effect of getting that stuff on plastic... but I don't really think that they make them out of plastic anymore...
 
Also it shouldn't have any effect on plastic.. since it is stored in a plastic tube :P

Well, it'd explain why the cleaning liquid that resided perfectly peacefully in a plastic bottle decided to melt my plastic set square when I tried to clean it...

And, man, you need to get those teeth checked! They're as yellow as a Springfieldian :eek:!

Well, you know those dudes who like to squeeze every last MHz of power from their computers? The ones who soak them in supercooled mineral oil, and so on?

He was like that, except with the brain disconnected. Seems he was under the impression that the colder a computer is, the faster it goes...

I don't think he really understood that much about how computers work...

i swear to God, my load and savior, if i am lieing when i say this,

i do not have one clue who u people are talking about. wtf is a purple face strangling cpu? what is plastics making it possible? wtf are u people talking about, i just wanted to know if i can put that coating in my first post on the gpu and cpu? i dont know the specifics of comps, i can get around though, not to hard to open a book and read but, i dont belive that cooler temps mean ur shit runs better, i know that hot temps are not so good, ied rather have 30 load than 50 load, and a 50 load rather than a 70 load, u get the pic? thats how i figure computers. and im pretty shure every single person here will stand by my side on this.

so people someone explain wtf is going on

hynenolie, we already said you could use the paste stuff on both your CPU and GPU. The rest was a slightly off-topic anecdote about someone who stuffed their computer up by covering the motherboard with thermal paste. We took your thread and ran with it :p.

BTW, where the heck did you get "purple face strangling CPU" from :rolling:?
 
Its thermal compound, so if theres any surfaces which needs thermal transfer (heatsinks etc) then Artic Silver 5 will do [ i use it too ]. However, remember to completely clean away the previous thermal paste/pad... preferbly using lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol (from chemists).
