Crab like synths

Is there any reason why valve still havent used the crab like synths seen near the end of hl2 in episode 1? now what has happened at the end of episode 1 seems like there is less chance now
 
Yea, I was kinda disappointed expecting there to be more new enemies :(
 
I was seriously hoping that they would be included because they seemed like very good enemies. The entire Synth aspect of the Combine interests me greatly and I was really expecting to see at least one of the two in the game. I mentioned in another post that the City 17 batch are possibly destroyed now as they were never dispatched from the Citadel and the Citadel was destroyed. Chances are they won't appear now until the supposed war in Episode 3.
 
Yes, I noticed that too. I was fully expecting to see them. This episode was all about the Zombine. Next time it will be the mini strider.
 
We see them being dispatched at the end of hl2, but thats minutes before the citadel top gets blown up, so they probably never got down to the surface.

Anyway, city 17 isnt exactly a good environment for crab synths, they're far too low and can't really move over large obstructions. Thats Strider territory.

We might see some in the upcoming non-city areas, which would be awesomes.
 
Did we ever learn their attacks or even what the Mortar synths were for? I always thought the Mortar Synths were responsible for the Nexus suppression until I played it through for like the fifth time. :stare:
 
When you think about it, the mortar synths arent exactly suited for city operation either, assuming they fire explosives of some sort, not when the crab pods will kill off people but leave buildings relatively intact.

It won't work that way, I don't think.

I was expecting to see them, but I don't see where exactly they could have fit in.
 
Would have been neat to see a wrecked one in the Citadel (like the gunship at the beginning). I loved seeing the transporter drop the strider and then crash into the walls - it totally added a feeling of chaos in the citadel.
 
I have a feeling that we will see them in either episode 2 or 3 because it seems that they will take place outside city 17 and they would have more room to move around probably.
 
Hopefully anyways, I mean the strider and mini-strider obviously got out alright, hopefully this leaves room for more of the xen creatures for us to play with...

There's at least 30 other cities out there - there's going to be thousands of Striders.
