Is it just me, but after watching all the HL2 videos through again I have a problem with the 'hit points'

When Gordon shoots/hits any form of bad guy wherever the bullet or crowbar hits the enemy there is always some crappy sprite animation of green blood. I noticed in the docks video that if you hit a zombie while turning it even looks like the blood appears away from the hit point. Surely someone has mentioned this before... sorry if this is a re-thread in that case.

This will be fixed by the final version right?

The green splats are the blood sprites er whatever from HL1. They're just in the videos as placeholders.

EDIT: Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

my god...thankyou for that good news.... I was begining to hate the game for that shitty effect

I will have to look at that video to see what you are talking about but if it looks crappy I'm sure that valve would fix it by now. The e3 video was released a long time ago, they have been fixing bugs and graphical issues since then as the basic outline of the game was probably done. Hopefully we will know for sure by the 30th.

Just look at the blood when he hits the zombie in the docks video...

I think you can see the real effects in the end of traptown when gordon shoots the zombies. (That will be in the newer bink videos)

I'll make a screenie for you peeps.

Wow you have really good eyes, I wonder why NO ONE ever spotted that one before... sigh </huge sarcasm>

Yes they are placeholders, many questions about this a while ago, gabe emailed, confirmed.

here is a screenie showing the crappy effect i mean

And that was a placeholder from hl1, its all in "info from valve" -thread.

By the way, what does the word 'placeholder' mean? I'm from sweden...

Please do better before calling something crappy in a game.

As you can see, the green blood sprite there is the one you'd see from HL1. It's just a placeholder, meaning that will be replaced by a much nicer effect for the final product.

You can also see examples of shitty red blood effects in barricade.

Harij, placeholder art is basically art made very quickly to make a release date and/or you can spend time on more important things. In Valve's case, it was placeholder art copied over from HL1 and put in HL2, since they didn't have enough time to code in the final effects.

I think he has more of a problem with the translation rather than the concept of a placeholder.
Does "temporary object used until the real ones are ready" translate better?
