Craziest presidental Ad yet.

huh your link is a video of a guy chugging listerine

edit: alright I found it ..mildly amusing :dozey:

I've seen heart transplants that were funnier than that...

That person chugging a jug of listerine is beyond stupid. That is the reason why I am not disappointed the voter turn out in the US is only 30%...

PS - The Kerry video wasn't funny.

That was pathetic. Is that ad actually shown on American TV?

yeah.. it's on abc right now.. hurry change the channel!!

Surprisingly enough, in America, you could actually get away with airing that ad. The only thing you have to worry about is what the public will think of the ad. There are more restrictions on commercials for beer and cigarettes than there are on campaign ads.

Yes. They can say whatever they want on TV over here! Hell, I just saw an ad that said if Bush gets elected, everyone gets $1 million! :|

False Ads: There Oughtta Be A Law! Or -- Maybe Not.

Frankly, you would have to be a retard to honestly think that ad would help your cause in running for president... but apparently blatant lies are protected under "freedom of speech."

There's a difference between distorting facts in ads and calling someone the antichrist.. do you REALLY think that ad could make it to air? lol

Let me tell you a little back story about this link below. It was the 1964 presidential election between Lyndon B. Johnson and Barry Goldwater. Lyndon B. Johnson launched this ad against Barry Goldwater.

On the right side, you will see a column of pictures. On this column, llook at the left pictures and select the second one down (the one with the little girl).

That's not the point.
Stations can reject ads for any reason from political groups other than candidates. And they may reject ads from all candidates for a given office. But if they take ads from one candidate they can't legally refuse ads from opponents, except for technical reasons (such as being too long or short to fit standard commercial breaks, or if the recording quality is poor) or if they are "obscene." Rejecting a candidate's ad because it's false is simply not allowed.
You might be able to argue that calling someone the Antichrist is "obscene"... but, even then, that's up to the people that decide whether or not to air the ads. The point is not that you'd have a hard time getting someone to show that ad. I don't disagree with that. The point is that it is allowed. The only thing stopping the ad from airing is the common decency of the people at the TV stations... not the truth (or lack thereof) of the ad.

Awesome. I want to see a modern day ad like that. lol, but anyway.. I think it's safe to say times have changed a little bit. While I guess it would TECHNICALLY be legal for an ad such as the original to be put on the air, I doubt it'd ever see the light of day if it was attempted to be broadcasted.

Gotta love the way they decide to end that "...or we must die. Vote for President Johnson on November 3rd". Hahaha :)

yeah, that ad is on the dvd of Fog of War (awesome documentary, btw). there'd be such a huge backlash if someone tried to do something that blatant today (i think ).

I thought it was okay for a chuckle, but not that funny. But then I was laughing hard out loud when I saw that some thought this was a real advertisement.. they remind me of the listerine chugger ;p

That ad was only aired once, but has been deemed to be one of the most influencial political ads ever created.

Brilliant. And just who sent them to their deaths in the first place?

I just watched that Listerine Chug video,. that was f'n stupid. I really, sincerely hope that guy threw up. Listerine is not meant for human consumption. Ahh well. I suppose it probably cant kill you.

blahblahblah, it's odd that the livingrommcandidate site you link in your sig doesn't talk about the nader effect in 2000.. it doesn't even show him in the 2000 election overview or results (while it does show other 3rd party candidates in other elections). i'm pretty sure nader made a couple of tv commercials at least. even if he didn't it seems like they should talk about him (especially since most people believe gore would have won had nader not run).

I still think it is a very interesting site none the less. This site focuses more on the history of political ads rather than candidates. (Which is very interesting, there is a documentary called "The 30 Second President" is one of the more fascinating documentary's I have seen in a while).
