I have started to work on a game inspired by the likes of Civilization, Alpha Centauri etc...
The basic idea is that you are a leader for a faction, you are supposed to lead your people to happiness and glory through politics, diplomacy and war, or aquire personal wealth and power. The game is supposed to offer a lot of freedom, in that I mean that you can be a cruel dictator that controls his people through mind control devices, a leader chosen by a democratic process. A mercyless conqueror or a peace loving diplomat.
The plan is that you design your military units from the ground up, you chose the components that make up there weapons, armor and equipment (The components are limited by the technology you have reserached). If you have discovered genetic engineering you can even define there genetic code. You chose the ideaology and type of goverment in your faction, make sure the people has the resources they need.
Since it is an ametur game dont expect fancy 3D graphics though...
Anyway I am mostly in the design phase (has started coding but have not done that much) and I am in need of faction ideas.
Basically each faction has a name, a technological speciality (Technology (Nearly complete focus on equipment), Biology (They almost completly, if not totaly, focus on things like genetic engineering, this usually the focus of species that are a dangerus but not that smart, think the Zerg from starcraft), Biotechnology (A mix between the two, the combine would be a good exemple I think), a Dominant Species, a Homeworld, and a background.
Each species has (As it looks like now) a Name, a Height, Strength, Agility, Endurence, Intelligence, a gas they breath, if they are built up by cells or not, if they have a nerve system or something else, a death rate and a birth rate, and of cource an apperence.
The current factions I have are: The United Nations of Earth (Humans, live on Terra (Earth), focus on Technology, the united survivors of WW3) and the Lirian Alliance (Lirians (A cruel, smart but not particularry physically fit species, they are tall though), focus on Technology, live on Lirien (Humans named it after the Lirian who they first encountered on another planet)).
So it would be nice if you could post any ideas on factions, from just a concept to a full fledged faction. Thank you!
