Critical 2 weeks?

OK i think now were all hoping HL2 will make it for September 31st. The quickest a game can go from being gold to on the shelves is generally considered 2 weeks.

That means from Tuesday valve only have 2 weeks to announce HL2 as Gold. Do you think theyll make it? At least we'll know in 2 weeks if its definitley been pushed back again :(
 
Tbh, they will have to make it gold asap, people are starting to loose interest. And if people loose interest then they loose money...and if they loose money then......:p

They're probably busy now optimising the engine & network engine based on the feedback from the CS:S bèta test.
Knowing they've started preloading HL² is a good sign.
Personally I don't really care if they'll delay the game a bit further, it only means less bugs and a better gaming-experience.

That is total BS.

Sudeki, a xbox rpg went gold on 15th July 2004 and was available on shelves by 20th july 2004. The quickest can be as less as 5 days - if a developer wants.
 
5 days is a bit hopefull considering how many units they have to produce dont u think? i think even 2 weeks for hl2 is tight and doom 3 was 2 weeks and that was for only the USA, Im in the UK :(
 
But how big title was that Sudeki? I mean does it compare to Half-Life 2, where we're talking about the most anticipated game ever. It takes more time to distribute 4 millions copies than 17 copies
 
Valve said it will be released summer 2004. I hope they keep that f***ing promise!!!
 
Some retailers are being told november at the earliest so dont hold your breath.

If its not out by september 30th i think ill stop tracking its development all together

Nah, not me. Personally, I think it's gonna be too difficult for Valve to release HL2 on a date that doesn't exist. I'd put my money on an early October release.

Agreed. If I don't see any announcements in the next week, I'm saying early october at the earliest.
 
For all we know the game could be gold and in production now.

My ATI X800 XT PE is backordered til November 17th, so I don't care when it comes out, hope it does push back, if it comes out and I don't have a video card to play it ii will be pissed
 
if it was in production that news would have leaked from somwhere. Theres no chance theyre boxing cds with HL2 no way.
 
Yeah, think about all the employees working at the factories who manufacture the game disks. It's impossible that a title as big as HL2 could go gold in secret
 
Perhaps they're not worrying so much about going "gold". I mean, most of us now have the game on our hard-drives thanks to the pre-load. Maybe they'll just let us purchase an account or something, to unlock it about the same time the "gold" announcement arrives. IF there is a gold announcement. If I recall, I believe there were quite a few games that didn't have the so-called, "going gold" publicity. of course, I can't remember off the top of my head which ones they might have been lol. :)

I can say this though....if HL2 is delayed until November, and EQ2 or WoW are released around the same time, then screw HL2. My time will be occupied elsewhere.
 
i think they ahve an agreement with viviendi that they caant release the game over steam b4 its on the shelves. I wish they could but i think you'll still have to wait.

Could people do me a favour and please look at a calender before posting, thanks. Having been born in the glorious month of September (19th! woo!), I don't like people blaspheming by giving it extra days it simply doesn't have. Those 30 days, whilst not as many as 31, nor as unique as 28 (or 29), are still very special to myself and those born in the ninth month.

We won't even hear of a status report on HL2 untill the CS:S beta is done and over with, me thinks. I'm thinking after the beta is done, there will be a bit of quiet time,then a gold announcement. But I can tell you all right now don't expect a gold announcement while the beta is still going on.

wouldnt the 28th make more sense? its a tuesday and games always come out on tuesdays right?
 
mayb they have sqaushed the bugs in CS:S Beta and they won't close it until they tell every1 they gone gold!!!!!!!!!1
 
You know... they don't have to complete a production run to get units shipping...

It may take days for the full run to complete, but they can start shipping those suckers out as soon as the first pallet is loaded.
 
But they can release it on Steam as soon as the gold announcement is made. So while the master discs are in transit to the factory, the game can be in transit to Steam users who have purchased through steam.
 
The game will only be released on Steam the day you find the game in stores around the world.

Don't be so narrow minded!! Games in the UK come out on a Friday so if we're to have a world wide simaltaneous release then that immediately throws out the idea of a regular release day. I have a feeling we'll see HL2 come out on a Monday.

Valve is located in the US. I would guess they would favor to US release date standards. Therefore releasing it on a tuesday.

For the record, nothing VALVe does is conventional. There are no standards--what they do is their own standard. What other developer has tried something so bold as Steam? ...

...thought so.
