criticizing iraq war gets you in jail...legally??

it's not an order prohibiting criticism

In the extreme, it could be interpreted as targeting the financial assets of any American who directly or indirectly aids someone who has committed or "poses a significant risk of committing" violent acts "threatening the peace or stability of Iraq" or who undermines "efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform" in the war-torn country.

it's just that it's vague

However, the text of the order, if interpreted broadly, could cast a far bigger net to include not just those who commit violent acts or pose the risk of doing so in Iraq, but also third parties -- such as U.S. citizens in this country -- who knowingly or unknowingly aid or encourage such people.

oh and it's from a year ago

This is old school. A lot of people on the left were really pissed off about it. I don't know enough about the legal aspect to comment on it, but it's been around for almost a year now and I'm not aware of a time this was used.

Not a patch on the British legislation which outlaws 'glorification of terrorism' (Terrorism Act 2006).

TERRORISM IS AWESOME! ohshi-

can you wear a t-shirt that says "Terrorism, F*CK YA!!!" in the UK?

<changes t-shirt>

thanks, so it seems the US hasn't gone completely batshit insane...yet :thumbs:

edit: hmm..."hasn't" really resembles "Hasan"....nothing terroristic about that, right? *hears knocks on door*

Sorry. I can't be bothered right now.
