We get an early look at the many amazing technologies going into this cutting-edge action game, as well as an idea of what kind of PC hardware you'll need.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/crysis/news.html?sid=6154899

Since DirectX 10 cards didn't exist in May, the Crysis demo at the Electronic Entertainment Expo was actually running on DirectX 9 video cards, which is a good indication of what sorts of visuals you'll get with current hardware. "The E3 demo was all about DX 9 shader model 2.0--there was no more technology than this," Yerli said. He also addressed some of the controversy around the E3 demo. While visually amazing, the frame rate struggled quite a bit throughout the demo. However, he noted that Crysis was running on dual graphics-processor-unit systems, while most other PC games at the show were running on quad GPU systems. Still, we can expect performance on DirectX 9 cards to be smoother once the game is finished and optimized.
What's interesting is that Yerli told us that if you have Windows Vista and an older DirectX 9 card, you should still see better performance with Windows Vista than Windows XP, even if the hardware remains unchanged. "DirectX 9 on Vista will run faster throughout due to the better device driver model...which is a great thing because just upgrading the operating system on the same rig, you get a better gaming experience," he said.

Ya just read this. Seems interesting they also have 2 new HD vidoes.

Seriously cant wait for this.

£1200 to upgrade next year.

new:

2x dx10 cards
dual core cpu
2GB MORE of memory added to my current 2gb = 4GB in total
new widescreen MONITOR
-buy/download Vista ultimate :D

If Unreal Tournament 2007 doesn't show up on the XBOX 360 soon I might just upgrade my PC aswell. But only for Crysis? Don't think so. I will however sometime be able to play it on maximized settings :)

oh god i'm going to be spending money out the ass next year

I wonder how this will run on the new comp I'm getting in a few weeks to replace my 3 year old p.o.s..
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 4MB, Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 2048MB Kit w/two matched Value Select 1024MB, XFX GeForce 7900GT 520M Xtreme 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express, 520/1500Mhz.>_< I'll ofcourse be upgrading the GPU when the first DX10 GPUs arrive, which is why I picked this GPU and not the highest-end avaible..

Besides the unnecessary specs info, and the part that I bolded which as far as I can tell is referring to nothing :P, it should run well enough. At the very least, you should be able to push medium details, if not more with a DX10 GPU.

I can't wait to demo this game.

Stigmata, how is the 4MB cache nothing? That's one of the bigger points of the Core 2 Duo E6600+ CPUs tbh.:p
Sorry for the uneccesary spec, I just quoted off the site I'm buying from.:)

I want to mow down trees too... :hmph: :sniper:

I think this game will just end up mowing down my 6600gt though.

OH. Well now it makes more sense. You should have said "4MB cache" instead of some random "4MB" :P

But yeah, that system should do fine. This game looks like the shit.

From what i've read in reviews and forums the 4mb cache in the 6600-6800 make little difference over the 2mb found in the 6400 and below (we're talking a few 100 points in 3dmark and that's it).

At the moment i'm torn between a 6600 and buying 2 or 3 6300's and roasting them. Both seem to offer superb value for money.

If you're upgrading for Crysis it'd probably be wise to wait for its release and buy the best you can afford then. Experience has taught me two things - buy consoles for the games that will appear on them over the next 3 years, buy pc components for games that are either already released, or available soon, as they'll soon be out of date.

That's true but I suck at waiting :p
I really want to replace this 3 year old p.o.s. asap.>_<

I'm in a similar boat - and am upgrading for TF2, Quake Wars and NWN2 - but feel that waiting 2 or 3 more months could make all the difference. New mobos for Conroe chips are coming out soon (current ones haven't impressed me at all) as well as new gfx cards.

high settings, or change to DX10 you may run it on ultra high settings.

by the way overclock your CPU to 3.2GHz, I heard the new Intel CPU can be overclocked upto 600MHz on air alone. its amazing.

it's the X6800 I've heard can be overclocked alot with just air, but that one costs around 1000 bucks and I'm not planning on buying it :p
Not high on overclocking either tbh, I'd rather not accidentally wreck my hardware.
Haven't ever o/ced before so.. Besides I've been told Asus mobos suck for overclocking, but I guess I'll have to see if it's the same with the P5B.

Thank YOU crytek for giving me an excuse to boost my rig!

Around 1.5 grand to play. One. Game. Sanity anyone?

Crysis may turn out to be very good, let's wait and see.

How is it only to play one game? Will no other game work with a computer rigged to play crysis? Some of us spend money to play games. Not one of us spends money just to play one game.

Yay let's post the same redundant message in every thread this game is mentioned. That'll work just dandy. :/

Ignorance anyone?

If your geared for Crysis, your good for any new that will come out a year from it, and play said games at high settings.

Welcome to the world of PC gaming.

I won't be able to afford a new computer. But I want a new one around 2006.

I think comradebadger should become my sugar daddy with his nice 68 dollar an hour job. :P

umm you cant be serious. the graphics are amazing i dont see how you couldnt like it. tbh im not impressed with the story but when are with crytek lol

What do we know about the story besides...aliens invade army's clash. That's pretty much all they've told us isnt it?

Dunno, but from the footage..the whole game looks cool..alien ships/machines look badass..etc...I'm really looking forward to it.

I like the look of it, but it would likely rape my computer several times over, and then eat its children, and curse its hardware to the ends of the earth. It would then proceed to spit on its grave and light its remains on fire, and then finally, after several years, my computer would be able to draw one of it's beautifully rendered frames.

Hey malfy my man!

Holler at me if you are my dawg.

But seriously, for all the people who put this game down, that's fine, it's your opinion, but there's absolutely no reason you need to make your way into every Crysis-related thread and tell everyone how bad you think this game will be, based on the unsupported fact that it may or may not have a decent storyline/gameplay. Just because the game looks amazing doesn't give a 100% guarantee it'll be the greatest game ever, but can we not all agree it's the next GIANT leap in graphics for gaming?

I think the storyline sounds like it has potential, and with this engine driving the graphics, I'm looking forward to it. They can certainly botch it, and I don't think they are going for a saga like Half Life, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it immensely from what I've seen so far.

I didn't down the graphics, I said it would be great graphics wise...but it may be lacking in other departments (I'm looking at YOU DooM 3).

I'm not really tempted to get Vista for just Crysis, as i'm not really tempted by Crysis as is, but i do like the promise of DX10 increasing performance all round.

Feel free to continue contradicting yourselves. :p

Fact is most gamers upgrade every time a next-gen game is about to be released. If we don't, we can't play it. So we do. TO PLAY IT. Get your heads out of the sand. Far Cry, HL2, FEAR, Oblivion, etc. all incited upgrades. Sure, we get to play all the other new mediocre chaff filler games that come out in that year, all 2 or three of them until the next giant leap forward in graphical luvliness. Ooo, lucky us.

I'm not against upgrading, it's an inevitable pitfall of advancing technology, and I like gaming. What I object to is that up until now, it's just been a graphics card or a stick of ram. At worst it's been both, and that was bad enough.
Now suddenly it's a new mobo, 12 vid cards, 20 cpu's, a whole new operating system and a nuclear powered psu to play this 1 game. Well, pretty much an entire rig for a lot of people at a stupid amount of money. Do you really believe the year is going to be filled with great games that will actually NEED that much power or utilise it to anywhere near the degree that crysis will?

Brought to you by the letters F and U, and the by the number !!!111one

How is that contradicting? I want a better rig to play _all_ games at better resolutions, but I don't strictly need it yet since all games (well, except fear) has been smooth at what i consider minimum settings.

Every game that has been released this year and will be released next year will benefit from a crysis-style upgrade. Right now the only 2 games I have somewhat problems with is fear and oblivion, but there _will_ be more. That is inevitable. If you think otherwise you are an idiot.

Oh, and just so you know, I consider it better to play a game at high settings than at "acceptable" settings. Right now I play most games at 1024x768 2xaf 2xaa. With a proper upgrade I'll play all source-games at 1600x1200 6xaa 16xaf or whatever is max. Which _I_ think is better, and worth some money.
