Written and video. I wasn't too interested in Crysis, but as I have some better hardware now I may actually pick this one up, cus I'm an explosion whore.

I'll pass on this. I was quite disappointed by crysis myself, although I am surprised at how high the score is. Didn't the original get something like that?

I'll be getting this. I enjoyed the first game. Youtube is flocking with Crysis Warhead Cutscene vids, but I'm not going to post any to spoil anyone interested.

I'm glad they did an expansion though, the Crysis Universe is actually pretty cool. In the ending of Crysis, they mentioned that the aliens had escaped the island, and had begun to invade the rest of the world. With this sequel, I hope they build up the story a little more, without making a shit ending like the original. No blatantly obvious boss fights for god's sake.

And you know what, DAM those 3rd person Cut scenes, what the hell are they thinking! (anger)

but also because it feels like Crytek openly borrowed a page or two from director Michael Bay.

not good lol

"Best PC shooter of the year"

Hmm, sounds tempting ....

I'm actually interested. Yes, I was kind of disappointed with Crysis, but this might be better.

Seems ****ing awesome TBH. Also IIRC it's standalone right? And it comes with the kick ass Crysis editor.

Kind of in the same boat here. I'll give this a shot, especially since they say it's more action oriented than the original, and I liked psycho's character lol.

If they release a demo so we can see just how optimized it is, then I'll give it a go.

I liked the idea of Crysis so I jumped at the demo. Unfortunately that demo brought my PC to it's knees and I had to turn everything to it's lowest settings to get a few FPS to try things out. I still wasn't able to get a fair impression of it. Unfortunately I have no idea if I like Crysis or not, but this review sounds good. Wish I had a PC to play it on.

They should do one from Prophet's perspective, I wonder what he was doing all the way till his return at the ice storm. Also one from Aztec's perspective - a 2 min. long game.

Sounds great, i liked Crysis, but it needed a lot more of what Warhead seems to have.

what a lame excuse not to buy it.

Not being able to install a piece of software more than 3 times, or change your computer more than 3 times after the first install is a pretty good "excuse" not to buy it. As if people need excuses not to throw money at products.

On another note, the game does sound like a lot of fun. It's probably better than the original Crysis, which itself was a lot better than Far Cry. Crytek is a pretty promising studio.

didn't they optimize the engine quite a bit? i was already able to run it on high quite well but hopefully it'll be even better

Is it a lame excuse though? I'm someone who frequently re-formats his computer and works from several machines. By withholding my wallet I'm protesting a system of DRM that hurts legitimate consumers such as myself. It's better than pirating it (from an ethical standpoint). So I ask you, good sir, my Unzero of the .net forums from which I so frequently visit -- how is my decision lame?

actually i was disappointed that warhead has more frequent action. i think crysis had a good ratio of action to calm.

and i do like the increased toughens of the aliens. will try it someday

All you have to do is make sure to properly uninstall your game before reformatting to get your activation back. Plus DRMs aren't meant to be permanent. After 6-12 months they are usually removed as was the case with Bioshock. Bioshock has no DRM anymore because it served its purpose.

Very few people will find themselves encountering issues with the DRMs, but of course the vocal minority will be seen loud and clear all over the forums because they failed to manage their installs.

No guarantee of that though and knowing EA I would not be surprised if they never removed it.

I can gaurantee you that the DRMs will be disabled eventually as their entire purpose is to curtail piracy in the first few months after release. EA as bad as you might think of them, are not in the business of leaving their customers SOL.

If worse comes to worse and you end up eating up your activations because you failed to uninstall your previous games, you can talk to customer support to get new activations. But seriously, if worse comes to worse, you probably have other issues to deal with or you own multiple PCs in which case you can probably afford to own multiple games to go along with them.

Actually, there's no way of deactivating previous installs with the latest version. If they decide to use the version Spore is using.

Does the review mention anything about the optimization? I'm too lazy to read it all, but that's my main interest in Warhead.

Too lazy for two pages? Oh well, here it is:
I played Warhead on a high-end machine with a quad core CPU and the latest Nvidia graphics card at high resolution (1680x1050) with all the details set to Enthusiast, which is essentially very high. It looked cutting edge and the frame rate was solid. Next, I checked the game on a slightly older PC with a two-year old 8800GTS and I was still able to crank it to Enthusiast settings and the same resolution and get solid results. Finally, I checked it out on the "$700 PC" that Crytek and EA have been touting. It really is a $700 machine built on the latest mainstream parts (the video card is a 9800GT), and I was able to play the final boss battle at the same resolution and at Enthusiast settings and get solid frame rates. I also tried it the Gamer setting, which is essentially high, and the frame rate was buttery smooth. You do lose some visual quality stepping down from Enthusiast, but even at Gamer Warhead still looks better than almost every game out there.
Very good news for me, since that's the resolution I use. I hate it when people boast about great performance in a game, making me feel confident, only to find the only reason for that was that they were using a far lower resolution.

Weird names for the settings but that does sound very good :)

My biggest problems with crysis was technical problems but if that is really fixed then i'll be happy :)

Apparently they changed the names because they found no one wanted to play on anything less than Very High, so they changed them to give players a better idea of what the settings mean. Medium, they said, was easily as good as high on any other game, but no one wanted to play on those settings cus Medium sounds mediocre. Everyone should also note there are no DX10 exclusive settings anymore, which is good news for everyone.
