CS 1.6. For better, for worse?

Now I am an avid fan of CS and when I found out that 1.5 will soon be gone forever I thought, "Well I've heard 1.6 isn't great, but it's CS, can it be that bad?".

But I was wrong, oh so wrong.

I started playin and within the first minute I was so f*ckin annoyed with it my heart nearly died. What have they done to CS? Guys, I know I speak for a lot of people when I say, 1.6 IS F*CKIN SH*TE! The text is horribly wrong, the buy menu is horrible, the specator mode is so bad my brain hurts and I don't know how they managed it; but they even messed up the crosshair.

There will be a helluva lot of people giving up their favourite hobby because the newest version is just terrible, i suppose it isn't bad if you've never known how good CS was.

I felt empty on a day when I didn't play CS, there was no point, CS was the only thing on the net that I played. I really, really, really hope that someone will come up with a petition or somethin that will get 1.5 on steam. 1.5 deserves to be on steam, if CODENAME GORDAN (Ugh, don't get me started) is on steam why can't we have 1.5?

We will be considered to be out of date in a few years time when we remember 1.5 and say that it was better, n00bs wont believe that CS could be better and the world will become more n00bier than ever.

It's not like I can just go my friend house and say "HAVE YOU SEEN TEH 1.6 IT IS TEH SUCKY AND IT IS TEH BAAAAD OMFG111ONEONE1111" because I don't know ANYONE in real life that plays it, not one, that may be because i live in England where the internet is so expensive I only know 2 people with DSL. So I have to vent me anger to words on a screen.

Why can't the gamers have what they want? The makers of CS must realise that by now that 1.6 isn't as good as 1.5! :flame:

1.5 should be converted perfectly to steam format so that theCS community can live on and keep lovin' their games.

Listen, if you don't want to go forward that's your problem. I've been playing CS since beta 6 and the game got better with every single update. You don't like 1.6? boohooo hoo. You're not the majority here, deal with it.

I enjoy 1.6 more than 1.5.

Most of the things you mention are simple "OMG It's different therefore it's crap"

Buy menu - get used to it
Crosshair - get used to it, you can adjust size and color btw.
Spectator mode - what's wrong with it?

1.5 works on steam fine and there are servers/people playing it on steam. Albeit a very tiny percentage because most people think 1.6 is better than 1.5. Once WON shuts down the 1.5 steam community may increase.

Well, I used to play CS online, and for a while it was good. But then as it got mroe and more popular, there were more and more arseholes, until eventually they just seemed to have overwhelmed the community.

The only reason I see why one would dislike 1.6 is the random FPS drops on ATI cards but that's about it. I used to hit 99 fps solid on 1.5 and 1.6 is giving me all kinds of troubles on that front, other than that I don't see why on earth you would rather play an older version of the game.

#1. Text is wrong? play on a higher res.
#2. Buy menu is horrible? never noticed, always played with the text based menu.
#3. Spectator mode sucks? disable auto-director.
#4. Crosshair is messed up? disable dynamic_crosshair and change the size to small.

And it doesn't really matter if you don't like 1.6 because they're shutting down the WON servers so you're either gonna switch to steam or uninstall CS for good. And you know why they're shutting down the WON servers? because the majority is playing on steam.

I hate the buy menu, it's too dark and just looks so bad.
Haven't got auto-director on, the bars at the bottom cover up the bottom of their screen therefore being able to see less on First Person.
Crosshair still weird on small.

They have guides on how to get 1.5 to work on Steam. I suggest though that you go with the flow & LEARN to like 1.6. It's not bad at all. And 1.5 doesn't have any support anymore while 1.6 sure does (plz don't counter with the "fact" that it needs it...).

There are well over 10x that many servers running 1.6/Steam.

You know, everyone always hates every new version. Then, after playing it for a while they get used to it.

So, anyway, you don't want to change to 1.6 because... the buy menu "looks bad," the spectator mode has bars on the top/bottom, and the text and crosshairs look different. Is that the best you could come up with?

God help you when CS:Source comes out; you will never be able to accept the whole game looking different.

same here.
the only time i look at the menu is when i want to buy the AWP since i don't use it all the time.. i some times forget the numbers for it.. plus it depends which team ur on.. on CT side i think its 4-5 and T side its 4-6 so some times that throws me off a bit

anyway.. pple who are still whinning about CS 1.6 are those afraid to accept change.. and ya know? its too bad because in a few months when WON is taken down.. ur only option is to use Steam and play CS 1.6

or u can always download CS 1.5 for Steam.. but a warning.. theres no anti-cheat support for it.. so hackers probably run freely as well.. guess u take the good with the bad.. :dozey:

I agree, 1.6 and 1.5 do both suck compared to older versions. But atleast 1.6 is a little better than 1.5 (imo).

Moral of the story: people who have played since beta 0.whatever are no more important than those that have only just begun playing. Many many new players are put off by the inaccessibility of the game, and they have as much right to play it as you. If it's so bad, play 1.3 over Steam and encourage others to do so.

Well I mean, steam is not difficult to use, if you have problems getting it to work, theres probably spyware,adware,etc. hosing the pc down...I've installed steam on about 8-10 pc's, and they all ran without a problem. To this day they work perfect.

Says who? You? And what makes your opinion any more important than that of a n00b who DOES like it? I doubt anyone here cares that you've played since beta 0.x, it doesn't matter, since everyone's opinion, whether a n00b or not, is just as important as yours. At the moment, there are 84,071 people who apparently DO like it, so who are you to say it sucks?

What's next? There's plenty of people who think 0.x beta's were the best, convert them all to Steam too? Where does it end? Face it, games like this evolve, and there's bound to be people that don't like it, and there's people who do, tough shit but move on. There's no game that suits everyone's likings and just because you say it sucks, doesn't mean everyone think it sucks and should be changed.

I didn't think CS was fun until I actually played it...hehe...very fun I suck though, I think the best round I had was when I killed 3 players in a period of 4 seconds.
