Hey all. Not sure if this has been addressed, but another thread got me thinking....

Would it be possible to port a version of CS (classic) to the source engine? Would a mod like this infringe on copyright laws? If it was free? I read that hl maps could easily be ported over, and that reskinning of models would be required. If that's the case, then wouldn't it be possible to re-do all the "classic" content? I know this would probably get shot all to hell by valve if it in any way it messes with their intellectual property, but if something like this could fly, it would be very cool indeed.:bounce:

You might be able to convince valve - or they might have already done so.

Of course, I'd want to go back to b4 or b5.2....

It would be nice if Valve ported CS over for us to give us something for free until more mods came pouring out, but I'm certainly not gonna hold my breath.

Excellent point Inflatablewoman.

No, I don't think it's, but it is based off the hl engine (which is modded quake/quake2 material). My understanding is that any maps developed using the half life engine (and I never considered that CS material might be THAT different) can be easily ported to source.

Now I definately could be wrong. Modding and developing are definately outta my league.

Ahnteis: " You might be able to convince valve - or they might have already done so."

Now THAT alone for me would be enough reason to buy hl2!

Maybe half-life 2 will come with a handful of half-life MOD's already ported.

There is SO many CS lookalike mods in development... Just pick one of them. Why want a classic version? Its flawed and ugly. I could name 10 mods that will be better than CS for HL2 right now (not really, unless I check them up, but in theory I could, if my brain wasnt so stupid), but will have a smaller fanbase cause EVERYONE just *HAS* to play CS... CS was obsolete a few months after it was playable. Now its even rotten.
