Counter-Strike will be the least of your concerns once we start seeing truely innovated and thought provoking mod ideas poping up that effectivly take advantage of Sources full capabilitys. The real concern here is, which mod is going to be the next big hit like Counter-Strike was for the original Half-Life? Which mod is it going to be, that months after it's development, would be seen on your local store shelfs?

what are the most popular mods out there right now?
Yeah, most people don't understand the difference between CS for HL2 (or CS for Source), which is most likely included with HL2 as its in the Beta, and CS2, which will be a whole new game built in Source from the ground-up. Except for a few things like shimmery water and ragdoll effects, there's not too much obviously noticeable between CS and CS for HL2. All the models and maps are the orginal low-poly low-res versions.Originally posted by azz0r
CS is on HL2, it was in the leak. As for CS2...hmmm
Yes it's called CS 2.0 and it has nothing to do with CS Condition Zero. It will be built on the HL2 engine and distributed by the same developers of the original CS.Originally posted by prophetBG

I wonder if they will put in some of the original maps from CS into CS2? Completely remade in source obviously, but keep the exact same layout.
Mmmmm...would love to play assault with HL2 graphics
If they do assault they would anger the dust fans... and how many 24/7 dust servers are there? People can (and will) remake their favorite maps... so expect to see dust, assault, and the rest of the popular maps to pop up soon after the release of CS2.Originally posted by Jadewolf5675
I dont mean redo all the maps and use them, I mean put in tons of new maps, and just have some remade old ones, for die hard assault fans like myself

valve already said that if you purchased the retail version of hl2 you would have to pay to play the mods. if u buy hl2 via steam then you play the mods free coz u already paid your steam subscription. im still going to get retail version even though id play CS2 more than anything else.

Sadly its 100% certain that a CS2 will be made. Not like it matters though, about 500 other mods will completely outplay and outpopulate it for players. TF2 will be 1000 times better than any CS-type hl2 mod could be.
Face it. CS is old. boring. full of 5 years olds who speak like total gimps. and quite frankly, gay.
The future is in AHL2/TF2 :>

Considering that the CS TEAM works for Valve now there will be a CS for HL2. I'd bargain it would come out the summer of when HL2 comes out. But even if it doesn't there are plenty of ready-to-play mods the day of HL2s release.

it most certainly will be totally re-done from the ground up with altered weapons and gamestyles. but that doesnt change my opinion.
doing the same idea again which has got, quite frankly, old, is just whats being done to quake..
quake1 - best shooter ever
quake2 - not bad, far too slow
quake3 - yawn
quake4 - yawn x 999
ideas get extremely old. the whole point in releasing new games is to encourage the creation of NEW ideas, not completely copied or lifted ones we've seen before. on a thousand 10 year olds monitors for years (cs)
