Ive been wondering, will there be CS for HL2? Is valve making CS for HL2?

Yeah, I think there is going to be a CS2. But it wont be out for quite a while after HL2 is released....

Allthough, by the time HL2 is finally released it may be ready........

Meh, we will see eh :)

Considering that the CS TEAM works for Valve now there will be a CS for HL2. I'd bargain it would come out the summer of when HL2 comes out. But even if it doesn't there are plenty of ready-to-play mods the day of HL2s release.

Counter-Strike will be the least of your concerns once we start seeing truely innovated and thought provoking mod ideas poping up that effectivly take advantage of Sources full capabilitys. The real concern here is, which mod is going to be the next big hit like Counter-Strike was for the original Half-Life? Which mod is it going to be, that months after it's development, would be seen on your local store shelfs?

Yeah, most likely a Counter-Strike 2 will come out. Anything to make more money.

I agree. Such a repetitive game style like Counter-Strike could be outdone tenfold with what Source is said to be able to do.

Imagine a Counter-Stike 2 or Day Of Defeat 2 or a Team Fortress 2 on the Source engine! -Starts To Drool-

CS2?

well dont hold your breath for a "free" mod

valve have got every1 by the short a curlies for CS. i can see a Steam driven pay to play full game there.

I would assume it will be on your game store shelves this summer, just intime to make a killing. Not a mod but a full game using the source engine. They could probably do with the cash after missing the christmas release for half-life

It would be dumb of Valve not to make a "CS2". I mean it's the most played game basically ever. You know they will because it's the only logical thing to do. :dozey:

id guess that a CS2 would come out 6 months to 1 year after hl2 was released. So i guess id be expecting it around 2010.

CS is on HL2, it was in the leak. As for CS2...hmmm

I'd like to think that Operation Everlasting Shadow has some interest :)

Yeah, most people don't understand the difference between CS for HL2 (or CS for Source), which is most likely included with HL2 as its in the Beta, and CS2, which will be a whole new game built in Source from the ground-up. Except for a few things like shimmery water and ragdoll effects, there's not too much obviously noticeable between CS and CS for HL2. All the models and maps are the orginal low-poly low-res versions.

Yes it's called CS 2.0 and it has nothing to do with CS Condition Zero. It will be built on the HL2 engine and distributed by the same developers of the original CS.

TF2 will come out before CS2,don't you think the two games'll pit against each other?

It won't matter... it's not like voting for govt. People can play both.

(Even though I think theres better things you could do with the engines other than freaking CS )

I think that those things just should be forggoten i want something new not something old with more shiney stuff and cool physics.

CS2 will most likely come out within a year of HL2's release and it will also take more advantage of the source than the other mods out there. Like I said before CS team works for Valve now. Meaning they were in collaboration every step of the way. CS2 will also probably be most bug-free than other mods out there. But the imagination of other mods will most likely surpass CS2's. I'm more interested in seeing if CS2 will be better than CZ.

yea i hope they do and that would be cool if they made a Day of Defeat 2 :D

I wonder if they will put in some of the original maps from CS into CS2? Completely remade in source obviously, but keep the exact same layout.

Mmmmm...would love to play assault with HL2 graphics :D

Gah! No! Assault would be cool with real cameras and stuff (plus it's my favorite CS map) but I really hope they won't redo de_dust or any of that crap.

I dont mean redo all the maps and use them, I mean put in tons of new maps, and just have some remade old ones, for die hard assault fans like myself

dear god how awesome will ragdoll affects be on awp map.

KABOOM and he flies INTO the wall.

I have another question, will the ragdoll be evident on the person your playing? Lets say you're in 3rd person mode and you get shot, will your arm flail in the wind due to the havok ragdoll engine?

If they do assault they would anger the dust fans... and how many 24/7 dust servers are there? People can (and will) remake their favorite maps... so expect to see dust, assault, and the rest of the popular maps to pop up soon after the release of CS2.

In my opinion, they should totally rethink everything about CS and make a completely new game rather than using any of the old content.

They should know this because the popularity of CS is waning because it has been the same thing for years... and just a graphical overhaul won't be enough to bring them back.

Dont expect CS2 to be free in any shape or form. Its more than likely that CS2 will be a boxed product you have to pay for in stores or pay for via steam.

valve already said that if you purchased the retail version of hl2 you would have to pay to play the mods. if u buy hl2 via steam then you play the mods free coz u already paid your steam subscription. im still going to get retail version even though id play CS2 more than anything else.

I hope thats only _some_ mods like the official ones eg: CS2 and not all third party ones, I can't see anyone being too happy that all their hard work is making money for someone else. Everyone will run away to the Far Cry and Stalker engines if that happened. Or write their own from scratch

"But nowhere has there been a suggestion that people pay in the store and then pay a monthly fee on top of that a la the MMORPG."

info from valve thread 2 win.

You will have to buy the mod initialy if you bought HL2 mp. But you won't have to pay to play the mod after that. The subscription is probably best if you play the game for about 5 or 6 months because after about that time its equal to buying th game in stores.

Paying for mods is just so....so wrong. It brutuall rips out the heart of what modding really is: free, innovative, original games!
And as for paying monthly for a single player game.... :flame:
So I'm going to get standard edition with SP and MP from a shop and then get lots of high quality FREE mods.

Sadly its 100% certain that a CS2 will be made. Not like it matters though, about 500 other mods will completely outplay and outpopulate it for players. TF2 will be 1000 times better than any CS-type hl2 mod could be.

Face it. CS is old. boring. full of 5 years olds who speak like total gimps. and quite frankly, gay.

The future is in AHL2/TF2 :>

i think if they made the specialist for hl2 it would be cool cuse that mod is missing two things graphics and physics.

:O, I use to play cs, im 17, im straight... and i aint a gimp!!!!

So anyway whats team fortress about? I never pld it but is it like CTF with some odd weapons?

if CS2 isn't available for FREE like the original, I for one won't play it unless i get a hold of a stolen cdkey. There are a thousand other mods being made which will be free. CS is a community mod, and look what happened when it became non-community.... cs1.6? steam? bah hahah. I hope someone makes a free clone that keeps the replayability of the original. We shall see :D
until then, i'm looking forward to STALKER: Oblivion Lost and Far Cry, along with Medal Of Honour Pacific Assault (you guys should watch some tech demo's, very cool).

Tell us your real feelings, no seriously. It wouldn't surprise me if CS2 became the most popular HL2 mod. I do hope it's rebuilt from the ground up with new features and content.

it most certainly will be totally re-done from the ground up with altered weapons and gamestyles. but that doesnt change my opinion.

doing the same idea again which has got, quite frankly, old, is just whats being done to quake..

quake1 - best shooter ever
quake2 - not bad, far too slow
quake3 - yawn
quake4 - yawn x 999

ideas get extremely old. the whole point in releasing new games is to encourage the creation of NEW ideas, not completely copied or lifted ones we've seen before. on a thousand 10 year olds monitors for years (cs) :p

wouldent this suggest they have been working on it from the minute source was in a workable state
