It was pretty difficult to create a realistic game on the HL1 engine. One would assume that Source will make modding a realistic game much easier. Therefore shouldn't CS:S try and go for what it was originally trying to create? A game about counter terrorism. I know that a game can't be 100% realistic (nor would I want it to be) but couldn't Source make CS a much more realistic game?

Apparently no. Footage from CS:S so far shows that it is just a port from HL1. That could be OK to start with but wouldn't it be better to unleash the full potential of Source?

Can't we have a CS that doesn't have big boxes laid about the map for no reason? Or have the player move with much less speed? Currently, CS has the player on roller skates because you can simply glide over the surface of maps.

I think the big disappointment about CS is the maps. They need to be made realistic. I just don't get the boxes - they often don't fit into the scenario.

I feel that CS could be made to be so much better than it is and it should move on from the arcadey clan friendly game it is now. Remember, CS used to be about a realistic portrayal of counter terrorism. Now it is practically Quake with a lot of guns.

They've said that they won't change the gameplay in CS:S from what it is in CS. Since there will be a CS2 in the future. They only wan't this to be a port.

god fobid things were that compicated! the CS community would go mad trying to figure it out!

now let me get this straight... you have a shield... that blocks bullets... so *shoot* OMG CHEAP! it blocked the bullet... maybe if i shoot it again *shoot* OMGTF!!!!! HAX! one more time, maybe something differant will happen.... *shoot shoot shoot* [/b]****ING CHEAP![/b] omg what is he doing.... HES MOVING THE SHIELD AWAY!!!!! AHHHH! *dead*

god forbid you had to wait a half second before shooting, things like that are too complex to CS players and they ruin gameplay... :dozey:

go tell the people who say shoot-through concrete walls were INTENDED.

I personally like realistic games(especially racing sims), but CS has always been an Hybrid between action and realism. So in CS:S that will be continued, i guess.
But some things are terrible. E.g. you can jump down a 100 feet mountain - if there is 20 inches of water you won't get hurt.....

And those boxes....as long as valve adds decent bullet penetration, they can stuff the level full of boxes.

yeah, CS:S is just CS on the hl2 engine, nothing more. CS2 will be a whole new game sdo dont expect Cs:S to be very realistic

im ALL for realism... kind of Raven Shield, imho one of the most accurate FPS multiplayer games out there, so much fun shooting foreheads when ppl are peeking... its awesome.

Hmm I hope to god they don't turn it into Raven Shield, I installed that yesterday. I also uninstalled it yesterday as well.

Poor netcode, and well, no fun :(

Just ages of sneaking without seeing someone, then two clicks and the round is over.

IMO that would just ruin CS, it takes the best from realism and action arcade and combines it into a great game. If valve made it more realistic it just wouldn't be CS, it would be more like CS:raven sheild ( which a majority of the cs community wouldn't like).

Less speed = less fun.

There is no reason to make CS like Raven Shield. If you want Raven Shield, then play Raven Shield.

Have you not seen the images from the new dust and dust2? They look like real middle east settings now. I am personally quite impressed.

really? you need to be constantly stimulated with lots of colors and flashing lights? you cant wait that extra half second for him to move the shield before you shoot?

wahhH! i wanna shoot him noww! cheap shield! ill go back to 1.5! wahhh!

go play WWII: Online, its one of the best games in world history, and its slow...

CS gameplay is great as it is. It's the most fun MP experience I've ever had and still have even with it's old gfx. CS:S will be great b/c they aren't ruining a great game by changing gameplay characteristics and they are giving it a fresh new look.

It's more like CS2 has a chance for actual realism.

CS and CSS are just fun, arcade shooters.

They are actually trying to change as little as possible at first, mostly when it comes to gameplay. But CS will continually evolve as it has it's whole lifetime. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the changes in the future were towards realism. However, gameplay is priority when it comes to CS. Many realistic elements would drastically alter the game people have come to love. They need to keep CS... CS.

If its not broken, dont fix it. The swarms of complaints about the shield show that change isnt always appreciated.

Yah! Another "cs isn't realistic enough" thread. You know, you can never have enough of those.

/me adds this thread to his collection

Woohoo, only one more and my collection is complete and I can get a 10% discount on my own pet badger!

Disregard this post, it does not make any sense....

What in the heck are you talking about?

And I didn't mean in general, I mean't for CS.

while I don't want CS to be Raven Shield realistic (I play enough realistic games now :p WW2OL, Raven-Shield, etc.) it should be made a bit more realistic or balanced.

one aspect of the realism is that the levels will have to be thought through far more, take the dust levels for example - for the doors that you can't enter would you keep them that way, or perhaps open them up too, as a HE grenade would surely blow a door down. Obviously some constraint would be needed, such as doors on the edge of the map. But the thought of what the physics in CS:S will enable u do to is mind-boggling.

I doubt you will see exploding doors. That is more of a DOD and TFC thing.

Raven Shield is kind of fun. The only problem was..to many controls for me. 3 or was it 4 god damn controls for opening doors. X_x. You had a control for ladders when i dont want to have a seperate control for ladders.
Thats the only thing i dint really like.

slowing down the running speed would change the gameplay too much and make it harder for ppl to rush whch would suck. the current speed is good, u wanna go slow? then use walk ;)

and i think they have changed the fall damage in water, i noticed in one of the meca vids that sum 1 drops down on aztec into the water with low health and dies. (or maybe he got shot?).

cs isnt sposed to be ultra realistic, but it has enuf realism to make it enjoyable. :p

I think that guy who fell in the water got shot.
It would suck if they made it so you get hurt if you drop into the river in Aztec. :(

the reason people hate the shield in cs is because it doesnt ****in work. daily people all around the world playing cs are face to face with a guy with a shield and when the shield opens and they shoot the opn place the ****in bullets bounce off the invisible shield still covering the guys head and dont make any contact.
