CS:S First thoughts!

First thoughts are "WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I will write a proper full fledged review soon.. after I played it alot more.
First thing I like to say is "is netcode beta still?" it jerks like anything.
Not FPS jerks, not actual Ping jerks as its 40 ping in this server but some reason I get little spike things now and then real annoying to play.

Anyone else getting it?

TBH, my first thought was "fugly".

But playing around in office has considerably made me feel better. They f**ked up havana big time - it was one of my favourite maps.

First impressions are 'What the hell did I just waste 60 bucks on?'

What a load of crap this CS S is... it's the beta with a few extra maps, ones that suck compared to the old CS. Italy looks to dark and the market has been torn down for some crappy fruit stand or whatever.. AND no chickens.

Same models in every map with no variations of the T or CT models, crappy physics, poor AI hostages, and some pretty crappy changes to Havana leave me bewildered and hoping that HL2 will make my purchase seem worth it.

Its very hard to dissapoint me but I gotta say that this isnt too great (at least not yet), same 2 player models, same guns, nothing new, also what happend to the supposive suprise that is with css, hell regular cs has more to offer than this does what gives valve????

Oh and "PWNED" . That was back from when we were modding the HL1 SDK. Chris tried to type OWNED, but he made a typo. Now your copying a typo. So yeah... it's probably time for that word to retire... :naughty:

well a little dissapointed here.. Physics could be a lot better! and some textures too. But damn i really like that office map now! the broken glass! tryed to smash the bells computers! background! really cool map..

one thing: why is the player modelled as being so short?! i'm running around looking for a hostage, i finally found one..i ran up to him, and he just kept getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger..

is it just me? it seems so pronounced. unless they've modelled every CT and T model on a 12 year old..

they are in a semi-crouch at all times(player models) which as has been stated elsewhere,is actually realistic

Not bad... allthough the hostage models are way to tall, or player model is short as hell.. it looks so stupid. The game is just as it allways is.. minus afew player models. Alot of the textures are pretty low res which is a shame (even on high, afew of them look bad)

All in all: Its CS.. but better looking, nothing on what a good hl2dm would of been.

It's because you are hunched while holding your weapon. That makes the hostages look like giants. (small giants at least.)

First off, I have not played CS:S yet, but what the hell is this, something like 7 maps? What happened to Train, Backalley, Estate, Assault, Vertigo??? I want THOSE maps in CS:S...

I for one hate Dust, Aztec, Havana, and Piranesi. I like Dust2 and Office and Italy, but I'm indifferent for Cobble.

I think they should really have made more of the maps into Source if they plan on making this the official HL2 multiplayer...

The maps being rather small for today's gaming standards, I think there are too few compared to other recent games that have twice or thrice as many.

But like I said I don't have CS:S, let me know if there are or will be other maps.

About those player models, I wrote a bigass post about that yesterday or something. There are definitely plans for them, there are .res files for all of them (gign, leet) in the preload files. There are also images for all of them to show in a selection screen. Actually, everything is there except for the .mdl files.

I assume Valve had to rush things to bring them out (it's the ideal time atm) and had to cut a few corners here and there.

There will be other maps. It just takes a long time to redo them looking at how much effort and work was put into those maps that are there.

Alright i have a question... Is this going to be actually worth 60 dollars. I mean, c'mon. It sounds like this is the beta with some extra maps, wtf good is that? I just want to know if i should actually risk getting it by FILE and not CD. What happens if my hard-drive crashes and i loose files? hmm??? Viruses??? Like most of you, i want a taste of hl2 but is it really worth it?
