i am completely baffled with this sound problem i get in cs:s all of the sudden. if ANYONE has a similar problem or might know how to fix it PLEASE let me know.
here's the deal. all the sudden, for no aparent reason, after months of normal good quality sound, my cs:s sound just went to crap. things sound muffled, and low quality. i haven't changed ANY cs:s audio settings, they're just as they've always been. i haven't changed ANY settings with my SBlive 5.1 sound card either,. all my audio settings are just as they've ALWAYS been, and untill now, my sound has always been fine.
i've tried reinstalling my sound card just to make sure it was ok. i tried COMPLETELY uninstalling my valve folder and ALL contents and then redownloading cs:s. that didn't fix it either.
one sound issue i'm having is probably the most likely to give an idea of whats wrong, so i'll go into detail on that.
normally, i ALWAYS heard the zomme in sound when i zoom in with an AWP or scout or whatever. like everyone else. but with this recent change in sound quality, i've also noticed that sometimes i can't hear the zoom in sound. i thought it was just random, but after testing it out, i found that when standing on CERTAIN terrain i would NEVER get the zoom in sound, and standing on OTHER stuff, i WOULD always get the sound. for example, on cs_office, standing anywhere in the garage (ct spawn) i can NEVER get the zoom in sound. standing in the snow outside i got the sound off and on depending on where i was. the sound never came and went when standing on one spot. it was either a good spot, where i will ALWAYS get the sound, or more a few feet to a spot where i would NEVER get the sound.
going inside the main building is where it gets interesting. standing ANYWHERE on the ground inside, i could NEVER get the zoom sound to work, with one exception. ONLY when standing on the little steps in the map would i get the zoom sound.
i walked throughout the ENTIRE map scoping in and out nonstop, and i did not find ONE place on the ground inside other than on steps where i could hear the zoom in sound. also, when i jumped on a couch, i could get the sound. jumping on a counter also made it so i could get the zoom in sound.
it's really odd to me that depending on where i stand in a map now dictates whether or not i will hear the zoom in sound. i hope that might give a clue as to whats wrong though. the zoom in sound is NOT what's bothering me though. my sound quality is SO bad i can't play without it bothering me constantly to the point where it's unenjoyable to play.
now, after trying so many things, and running tests to make sure everyhting was working properly, i discovered something that just shows how stupid i am. i discovered that my onboard sound had no drivers installed and wasn't working properly. now, since i am using my soundblaster live 5.1 card, i assume the onboard sound has nothing to do with my problem. ESPECIALLY since aparently it's NEVER had drivers installed and i just didn't knoe it, but all that time my cs:s sound was fine. but i installed the proper drivers for my onboard sound anyway. (did i mential i also installed the latest dirextx, and my sblive drivers?) so i got the onboard sound working properly, and EVEYTHING in my system seems fine. STILL though, my cs:s sound problem is NOT fixed.
i am completely baffled.
i should mention the obvious. my speakers and headphones are fine. music plays crystal clear as always.
does anyone have ANY clue what's wrong, or any ideas on what i could try to fix it?
it just completely confuses me that it's been fine for months, and then one day out of the blue my cs:s sound goes to crap, and with the weird issue with the zoom in sound. and i've checkec everyhting, updated everything, reisntalled cs:s, and NOTHING is fixing it :-(
any sugjestions will be greatly appreciated.
