I'm using Photoshop CS to create my sprays. I've tried all methods of making sprays I have come across. I think I have it down except for the image deminsions. When I try to convert my spray from *.tga to *.vtx with the 'vtex' tool, I get an error saying "The deminsions are incorrect, it must be a multiple of 2".

Now, I understand what this is telling me, and that is the width and heigth of my spray are not divisible by 16. However, when I created my spray in Photoshop CS, the image was made with 208x208 deminsion. (I have also tried a number of different possible deminsions such as 64x96,244x244,96x144,etc). I was trying to make the spray square due to problems I've read about with rectangular images.

If anyone has any idea why this error is reoccuring, when to the best of my knowledge I've followed NUMEROUS spray tutorials in precise detail... I'd really appreciate help with this... who knows maybe if I can get one spray right, ANIMATED sprays aren't too far off!

Thanks,
-morire

Dude don't convert them, just make a spray that is in the right dimensions, the biggest you can have is 256x256, and save it as an jpeg file, then just import it in css, none of that converting shit.

aight, i've tried that aswell and still get the message about file deminsions being incorrect.... any idea? could it be for some reason photoshop is saving the file differently than i actually want it? any help is appreciated, thanks...

I made a spray with photoshop. Just opened a document (256*256 72ppi) and drew something. Saved it, then open CSS and imported it.

You can use jpegs? I was under the impression it had to be TGA which is much bigger than a JPEG.

Nah... the only reason ppl are using TGA's is because it's used when making custom animated sprays.. just import ur JPEG if u want a normal spray!

Nope, you can use jpeg files, just play the game go to options and then to import, it worked for me.

And Morire, the only thing I can sugest to you is to open a new file or so, set the size to something like 20x20 or so, atleast it has to be square and large so yo ucan draw what you wanna draw, then just resize it to 256x256, and then go to save as, and choose the option for saving as jpegs, and nothing more, if it ask you if you want some fancy option just turn it down. If those images you allready have made are squere just resize em in ps to 256x256, and save as jpeg, and if that doesn't work then it's a bug or a wrong setting in ps, but unfortunatly I can't help you further than that, I just found out in ps how to crop images, until yesterday my avatar was an crappy 50x50 image I found with google, that was simply the only one I could find, but noe I have a good avatar.
Anyways, good luck.

I have a friend who made a spray and can spray it and see it in game but people online can't see it...anybody know why that is happening?

It's over 120KB.

Animated sprays rool but they're hard to perfect.

The spray tends to be blurry and distorted. Can this be fixed

When I make an image in photoshop, 256x256, or 128x128, and import it in CS:S. It imports correctly just when I press the spray button nothing ever happens <sniffle>

I'd like to know how you make custom animated sprays to use in CS:S ...... anyone know how? ;(

Wow@!!!

holy shit! i finally made a damned transparent spray that works! woohoo!!

anyone know if you have to make it deminsions of 256,128,64,32,16,8,4,2,1 exactly? the import option tells you to use those deminsions... anyone been able to create a spray using different deminsions, like for say 208x144...and also convert it with the VTEX tool?

dimensions must be 256,128,64,32,16,8,4,2

But i doubt you'd want to create a 2x2px spray anyways..

ApHeX_: do both sides need to be same dimensions? I saw a square one (looked like 256 wide but only 60 high) yesterday. Do I have to use 256x256 and then make all I don't want to show transparent?

My latest tries:

spray_prone1.jpg

spray_prone2.jpg

it could be they just had a transparent background to the image... thanks APHEX, now that i know that i shouldn't have much trouble in the future :bounce: thanks everyone for you help

Morire, how did you make your background transparent? I tried with mine and the background was white. Also, how come I can see my spray in the game but my friends can't? I can see their spray's. I have mine as a jpeg and is located in the UI folder. The size is way under 130 kb.

well i made it with Photoshop (CS Edition). I don't think you can actually do it with a JPEG. You have to save is as *.tga and then use the "VTEX" tool to convert them to the CS:S spray format (i think *.vtx/*.vtm)...
here is a tutorial i used hxxp://homepage.ntlworld.com/craigweb2k/Spray_Tut/ .... change the "xx" in the URL to "tt" of course...

so far as other people not being able to see your spray... errrrm... well... have you tried on a public server to see if they can see it? i assume you have... i'm not really sure what would cause that.... except of course being over 130k... but since your's is not... i really dunno

Ok im working through that tutorial and I am up to the Marquee part and when I hold Ctrl and click on layer 1 nothing gets highlighted the way he says it should. Nothing happens except layer 1 becomes selected. Anybody know why?

do other sprays work? like the non-custom sprays?

ahhhh ok.... i see now... basically **** the [CTRL+Click "Layer 1"]... basically you just want to select the outline of your image (ie. no transparent space selected)... that's all the ctrl+click is for really, so if you can do this another way it won't matter... (i don't think atleast  )

also.....

also... i had my entire image in two layers, those would be the layer containing my image and the transparent layer (background according to the tutorial we're reffering to).

i created my whole image in one layer, so i didn't have need for the 'Ctrl & Shift & Alt & N' or 'Ctrl & Shift & Alt & E' portions of the tutorial... i think basically what you need, is two layers when you're ready to save your image... so... the layer containing the image, and then the transparent (background) layer which you fill will a greay color.

Ok I am up to the save spot and I don't have TGA as a format option. i installed the TGA update but I still dont have it as an option.

Im running Photoshop CS.

well you don't even need the TGA update for Photoshop CS (i didn't atleast)... and i think if you opened a .gif or .jpg or whatnot and create your image from that, your options for file types when you save are limited... in my experiences atleast. so to avoid that, just copy your image, creat a new image, then paste it into that, (make sure you do all the needed steps), and save as tga.

Do I just place the 2 files into the Logos folder? Do I also need to make the notepad file?

na the converter should make the txt file for you... and yeah you place the two files in the logos folder... if i were at home i could give you the exact path, sorry
