CS: Source BETA Delayed Slightly

well it does only say that its not gonna preload on the 5th, so hopefully they will only delay the release only a few days, if at all.

This is a good point, if thats a direct quote then for all we know it could come on the 6th!

You haven't seen me here as often lately. You know why? Doom 3 kicks so much ass. Also, Doom 3 actually exists.

Werd. HL2 has got to be very very VERY good to beat Dooms single player. I didnt expect it to be this intense and involving.

Frankly i dont think it will, and HL2 will take off the greatest mod engine in history.

Well gameplay will be the keywords for HL2 survival. Which means The Sims 2 could beat Doom 3.

I think that both engine solutions will be there, i dont think they will be sending either in to its grave.

Some people like it the hard way, others like it the easy way. So thus someone will choose OpenGL for an engine others will choose DirectX. And it shouldnt be surprising if the Doom 3 engine is the best OpenGL engine and Source is the best DirectX engine.

On subject though, could they be postponing it a bit, since they dont need the beta anymore? It seems probable that the game is in a finished state already and have been for some time. And it only gets confirmed with the previous interview, with a release date in september.

So i think theyre trying to find a workable solution that would allow them to give you the game without giving too much. but then again it could also just be a strengthening of the encryption.

It's very simple...

August fifth is waaay to early! Here's what'll happen:

They announce the new date is August 31st.
They'll delay it to September 10th on August 31st.
September 10th, they'll delay it until the 20th.
On the 20th, it will be delayed until the 3rd of October.

Half-Life 2, as you'll see, will follow the same pattern. :naughty:

HAHAH I knew it :D Valve is never going to release those games!

Btw, doom 3 is awsome with coop and now you can play it with 32 players on mp (new patches came out just)

you dont need a patch for more players.

its a ****in beta! it is supposed to have bugs! release the damn game haha.

Good point greatwhitehype, no one will give a crap as long as the thing isn't ridden with viruses (virii?)

Actualy you need a patch, there is only a 4 player mp in the game....

This ain't the same soon like the UT2K4 demo. Remember how HL2 was suppost to be released on September 30, 2003. CS:S will be like that!!!

Please be quiet

were not talking about an entire engine and a huge game, and the CS:S beta is likely to have about 5% of the content...

its likely this is to do with the steam servers and not the game...

Well now I feel kinda bad that they ever gave us the august 5 date. Again they should've just waited until they were 105%sure that they could make the date they were going to give. I never complain about release dates, they can develope the game as long as they are happy with it. But this is kinda ridiculous, you could say maybe even a fiasco :)

But it doesn't matter for two reasons.

1. I don't have Condition Zero
2. The beta probably has nothing to do with HL2 release date (or does it?)

It'll just be until the steam newtwork clears from the latest update.. I'm telling you, give it 3-5 days...

Seriously, start praying for HL2.... Considering Valve it will be a miracle if it got released in 2004.

Valve should learn from ID. ID always stuck with 'when it's done!', never gave a release date. Valve on other hand gives the dates and then pee on themselves.

I'm not sure but this may be the third time I have posted this:

People have to understand that this is the game development business, any date you set could be completely washed away in a matter of hours no matter what stage in the project you might be. Almost every game is delayed, all of these developers no matter how intelligent and experienced they are can try to give what they believe will be a reasonable deadline. However they are almost always wrong. HL2 has had more pitfalls than most games and the fact that it is such a huge project with so much hype surrounding it automatically means that if the developers are to ensure it lives up to the hype then work that might not have been planned for may have to be done, and that means delays.

This is not like writting and essay where you have a set deadline and it is easy to know how long it will take to write, writting a major computer program has far too many variables to take into account that can cause a delay. Some developers get lucky and can release a game that lives up to their expectations and did not require a delay but those games are rare. The trick for games is to know when to announce what your planned deadline is to the public. Don't announce anything and people are pissed off because they want you to tell them, announce it at a time that the public can be satisfied with but is too early to know for certain that the deadline can be met will often result in the problem that HL2 has had with its fans. Plus often the developers don't even have a choice as it is the publisher that will announce the date whether the developer wants it announced or not.

Unless you are a game developer that has had experience creating a major game and found it easy to know when your game would be done and could say for certain how long it will be then you really shouldn't be complaining since you know basically nothing about the whole process. Now I am not saying that I have had any experience, this is all just based on what bits and pieces of information I have gleaned from observing the development of games.

XP SP2 delayed, now CS:S ahhhhh :flame:

XP SP 2 release is still 25th august, it's only the RTM build that is delayed.

we should be happy the let us try Cs:source at all..

btw, "SC:Source beta delayed SLIGHTLY", maybe its just like.. 2 days or something, who knows?

yeah heres still hoping its only like a couple of days - im going on holiday soon, dont want to miss it :(

I wish some people would just plain shut up...

How much bandwidth do you think the steam servers are using giving the updates out? They'll just need a few days before the servers can hadle the demand of preloading, I think you forget steam gives content and updates to new users every day, this is one of the bigger steam updates we've seen so its bound to be taking up alot of bandwidth.

Some people in here I just to highly strung about HL2, its pathetic. A BETA (do half of the whiners havea clue what beta testing is...) test of a game which uses the source engine has been put off a few days for unkown reasons and already we have idiots who claim that HL2 (which is so obviously finished in Valves eyes that it hurts) will take more than 6 months to complete.

Honestly get over this game, go see a shrink or something.

ive had it with waiting on halflife2... ive been waiting for over 14 - 15 months now and im sick of it...i got doom3 2 days ago... it roxor :) runs sweet and smooth even thow i barly cut the min rquirements... i can still turn up the lights and shadows and bumpmaps: ^_^ ne ways doom3 = 54.89$ i think ile pick up hl2 when it comes out but im not waiting on it anymore im tierd of waiting

nah, ill carry on keeping my hopes up - thank you very much :burp:

yeah, that was only really for the guys who seem ready to jump off a cliff, I'm optomistic :)

God forbid anybody at Valve gets somebody pregnant. The baby would roll out about 2 years later with Teeth and hair.

hey

just think of it as a fine wine......better the longer you wait

I rather them just release HL2 and while we play it release the beta... that way no-one whill give a sh*t cuz we are all happy.

Bah, stopped waiting for this game a long time ago. Waited for Doom 3 instead...
Not much better but at least now I can play it.

I didn't feel like wasting half my life to wait for half-life 2 (unfunny pun intended).

Meh, thumb twiddling time. At least CS:S and HL2 (finalised of course) will be out within a year.

A couple of points to vent my much maligned spleen: just because Valve delayed their first game for over a year doesn't mean they're excused for missing "deadlines", the same arguement should be applied to say they should've learnt a lesson from past experience. What is vindicating is that the game(s) won't be any worse for delay. They're hardly removing features.

As for the complexities of game design, I'd bet a lot of people would find it harder than they think, as The Mullinator already pointed out. That said, I'm an amateur author with previously published work (albeit only in magazines) and I once underwent a tortorous regime of coding during my IT A-level, which I failed. In either case, both experiences led me to believe that every accurately scheduled date will be missed, so the moral of that story is to pour insane amounts of extra time on a probable date to avoid missing a deadline. So, basically, Valve should keep quiet, although with one half of the community demanding silence and the other a projected release date for all their projects, no wonder their torn with indecision.

I don't pretend that the September 30th fiasco pissed me off, but I must admit that I sometimes wonder why so many Valve haters don't do us all a favour and carry out the "threat" that they'd never buy the game. Wait a minute... isn't this a forum for a Valve game? I'd never noticed before...
