I did a search on this, but found nothing.

If you find something, you probably thought of better keywords, but I used, "cs:s beta pause download."

Will CS Source be pausable during the preload? Cause if its 3 GB I might not have a whole day to download that, even on DSL..

I'm guessing yes though...

The way steam works is it will pick it up from where it left off at when you have to turn steam off and then come back. So yes, it will be 'pausable'.

Gabe has been asked about the size of CS: S (beta), and he said it currently stands at about 300mb, so I wouldn't worry about a full day of downloading :)

I heard from CS Banana it was 3 GB...maybe they were talking about the HL2 Leak tho..

The leak was 1400mb (3gb) uncompressed, the final HL2 will be pretty similar. I'm sure steam sends a compressed data stream though.

yeah I usually get over 1mb per second...theres only been one other time that I've had rates that high and that was from having 6 hosts...

?confused?
perhaps I am getting my abreviations wrong. I mean if it was 300 megabytes it would take me 300 seconds...

(ive never referred to the term megabits, thats not what I meant. Lol I bareley know what they are)

1mb/s = 128 MB/s. I dont know what kind of connection you have, but thats not all that great of a download.

Do you mean 128KB/s ?

ok to stop the confusion. Steam displays download figures in "bits", everything else displays figures in "Bytes".

For every 8 bits is 1 Byte. A Megabit is displayed as Mb, a MegaByte is displayed as MB.

So when you see those "insane high download speeds", divide the number by 8 and you get the figure in Bytes. Like in steam, if it says you are downloading at like 1500 Kbps, its actually 187KBps

argh, sorry, yes, i meant KB, not MB

1 mb/s = 128 KB/s
